Correcting the Magnetic Variation FSX SE

Featured Replies

I downloaded the updated Magnetic Variation file from here:

http://www.aero.sors.fr/navaids.html

The readme file indicates when I copy the MAGDEC.BGL to the \SCENERY\BASE\SCENERY\ folder replacing the current one (I backed it up to another location),
Flight Simulator will rebuild its index at first launch and the new magnetic variations will be applied. In FSX SE this did not happen.  I went to PANC and the runways should have changed from 6L and 6R to 7L and 7R, etc but didn't...24 to 25 etc

Anyone using FSX SE apply this update successfully?

Thanks~

AFAIK, the magnetic variation will be applied, but the runway numbers themselves are contained within the airport scenery BGLs and therefore will remain the same unless you download an updated AFCAD/scenery or use something like ADE to modify the stock scenery.

I think, however, you will find that that the actual runway headings should be accurate (but don't quote me on that).

Download & run the ILS inspector from the same page ;)

Thank you Bert and HighBypass.  It was exactly what I needed!

Thanks Again!

I don't think this is true. It's odd but I installed this magdec update over my weekend and KSNA is now runway 20 but it used to be 19. I know because I used 2007 plates for that airport and they matched. It's weird but somehow the numbers are different now.

If you apply all the updates mentioned above, the FSX runway numbers will change also.

OOPS! Thanks for the correction Bert... I'd forgotten I'd applied that update package!  :fool:
