DAFIF? Write Your Congressman!

Featured Replies

There goes yet another one of our tax-funded liberties. Some would say this is merely a conspiracy theory, but I think it's more like the frog in the frying pan theory. Keep the flame up just enough so they don't know it's getting hot. By the time the soles of your shoes melt, it's too late. The reality is that DAFIF will always be in production... The problem is that the Government will sell it to the private industry, so now we'll pay with our tax money on the backside so the Government can profit again on the front-side. Write your Representative:http://www.house.gov/writerep/The deadline is set approproately as well. It's just far enough in the future so we'll all forget about it, then it will quietly go away without a fight. Imagine the fuss if they had cut us off next week.I cannot for the life of me figure out how knowing the LAT/LON of Miami Int'l Airport threatens Homeland Security....can you?If you can't, please write your congressman. It does work. If you belong to AOPA, engage them as well.

Ray,A great suggestion . . . I'm not sure if it will be THAT helpful, but it is a way for us, the public to voice our opinions and just could make a difference.Probably one of the most promising threads to add to all of this -- thank you!Clayhttp://www.dreamfleet2000.com/gfx/images/F...ers/Dopke01.jpgClayton T. DAFIF is a worldwide database of NAVAIDS, Airspace, IFR routes, VFR routes, airways, elevations, SIDS, STARS, etc... that many FS add-ons use to make and publish their products. With DAFIF gone, now we will see the demise of several quality add-ons, or they will most likely migrate to payware if the publishers are allowed to purchase the data.

Thanks for raising that concern. Although not a major factor or consideration by the most of us in this country, the opposition of a few, with the appropriate pressure on our local representatives (Translation: We voted you in.. we can vote you out) CAN and DOES get results. My wife and I are very politically active and we see the results of voicing opposition.Dissent is Patriotic. If you don't stand up for your rights... no one will...

I don't have a congressman. Perhaps we need an American forum and one for the rest of the world.Just a thought.--qnh

"I don't have a congressman."You're probably better off then."Perhaps we need an American forum and one for the rest of the world."Of course you have the right to start your own forum.Regards,Greg

I don't have a Congressman either - I'm Canadian. But this issue affects all simmers because the DAFIF data powers the FMCs that go with many of our favourite planes. So I don't think it's fair to label this an "American" issue.

>I don't have a congressman. Perhaps we need an American forum>and one for the rest of the world.Last I checked, you didn't have to be an American to use the DAFIF data. Perhaps you can talk your government into issuing a similar worldwide database for free rather than using the US-provided information? If other countries/sources were providing such a comprehensive database already, we wouldn't be having this discussion. Now, if you don't mind, those who live in the country providing the data are going to discuss whether or not it's worth our efforts to contact our lawmakers to reverse the decision....
