November 27, 20169 yr If you've not flown with us or any online sessions before, do not be intimidated. Please leave your acronyms and ATC speak at the door. English and American spoken. We also have a smattering of Canadian! The World is divided into two groups. Those who say "Give me a link" and those that provide the link. WWG1WGA

December 4, 20169 yr On the whole, a very successful session, yes? Later on I was having a ponder (try it, it's good) and came to the conclusion that flying online is, or ought to be, a shared experience. That goes for weather and time of day. Otherwise we may just as well be flying in single player and chat in Teamspeak. I'm reminded of last Sunday's flight which was in good conditions for pretty much all of it....Until the last landing! The area was swathed in fog and the airport lights didn't appear until the last knockings. It was hairy, Gunter managed to land on the runway, I had to make do with the grass alongside the runway and Jeff...He will be missed. I think you get my drift. Thoughts? December 5, 20169 yr I agree, it should be a shared experience including the resulting challenges. But, on the other hand, most important is that we are having fun together, with or without facing the same challenges . The alternative would be stright regulations with ATC etc, which could kill the fun. Just my two cent... Regards Gunter Schneider
December 5, 20169 yr It's gotta be painful sitting on the fence like that. But you're right. I wasn't looking for regulations! I'm the last guy to want regs. The World is divided into two groups. Those who say "Give me a link" and those that provide the link. WWG1WGA
December 6, 20169 yr Author I like to fly real-day/real-weather conditions. but am willing to adjust time of day so we can enjoy daytime flying and better judge and comment on the skills and airmanship of participating pilots  I wish I was better at making the proper ATC calls, but I am more likely to mangle the comms than get it right according to regs. That said I am impressed by folks (Gunter, MM, and the missed Mike G & Great Ozzie) who get this right almost everytime. Gunter knows how to shape up our ATC comms, paperwork, lots and lots of paperwork  Hmmm.... . I think I'm gonna have join Ron and vote NO on the enforcement of strict ATC communication  We can call that position REGXIT (Regulation Exit). | Windows 11 | ASUS ROG MAXIMUS Z790 HERO | i9-14900K | RTX 4090 | 64GB CORSAIR VENGEANCE DDR5 | 4TB Samsung 990 PRO M.2 | 2x 4TB Samsung 990 PRO M.2 | CORSAIR AX1600i ATX Titanium | LG C2 42 Inch 4K OLED |
December 6, 20169 yr There's no problem with time as long as we're all on the same time. If we get a sudden urge to fly into the night, let's all fly into the night. I always feel a little bit silly trying to sound like a real pilot. The World is divided into two groups. Those who say "Give me a link" and those that provide the link. WWG1WGA
December 6, 20169 yr I opt for the REGXIT . And Ron, rest assured, we are far away from sounding like real pilots . But back to topic: Since we are not all using the same wx engine, we always have at least one in the crowd who has completely different winds and hence is heading for the opposite runway (since it becomes more and more popular to take off and land against the wind...). But the idea of the radio calls on non controlled airfields is that everybody knows where everybody else is and what the intentions are. Here we are ok, and approaching controlled airports - well - there are some different procedures to follow, so .... well, yes, REGXIT is the choice of the day Regards Gunter Schneider
