December 11, 200520 yr Something that disturbs my flight experience in 2D panels (don't use VCs normally) most is the presence of the centerpost.IMHO apart from being completely useless and misplaced somehow because of the wrong perspective a 2D panel has by default, they're only obstructing the view, many of them hinder me to see the runway properly.I welcome near-photo-realistic 2D panels, but my opinion is that because of the already small screen space left for the outside view, this restricted space shouldn't be obstructed further by generously re-creating the pilot's view with window posts etc.In FS as a PC simulation it's already very difficult to have a proper situational awareness by just "looking out of the windows" and to judge the flight path only visually, so that more obstructions caused by the bitmaps make things even worser.I for my part spend a lot of time removing the bitmap parts I don't need, what's left is pretty enough to be "as real as it gets". In many cases this means repositioning gauges onto separate newly to create panel windows as well. And in some rare cases, this is impossible 'cause the panel consists of a single gauge which covers the whole screen.I only wish there'll be a change of mind and 2D panels will be created with more area where the outside is visible...It's all personal preference, I know, but anyway...Andreas Andreas, LOWW - Nihil sumus et fuimus mortales. December 11, 200520 yr Got to agree with you there. Need a click to get rid of the post. In real, I can move my head.jimCYWG
December 11, 200520 yr thats why theres nothing like the VC, the best situational awareness, as close to the real thing as possible.
December 11, 200520 yr If you make 2D panels with a pilots point of view (or landing view) as well as a main panel view (or jump seat view) then you have no problem. :)The a/c with two centerposts need a PPOV more than most eg. MD-80's etc regardsEd http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v640/edetroit100/edley.gifAMD Athlon 64 3500+, 1024Mb PC3200 DDR, 300Gb HD 128Mb DDR Nvidia 6600GT PCI Express, Audigy 2 ZSCH Products Yoke, Pedals and Throttle Quadrant My FS Videos
December 11, 200520 yr >thats why theres nothing like the VC, the best situational>awareness, as close to the real thing as possible. And that's why I'm such a fan of the RealAir SF260 with an exceptionally done virtual cockpit. A sliding canopy with no huge corner post's either. You see and sense movement such as yaw effects, that large post's will cover up.L.Adamson
December 11, 200520 yr I love Bill Lyon's Challenger for the same reason--very nice when flying Low 'n Slow...-John
December 11, 200520 yr We all know corner posts are there, and my big Chevy Silverado has some pretty hefty ones. But un-like 2D panels, and even some VC's, we get enough real life head and eye movement, so that they really don't seem in the way. But........... in flight simulator, the posts DO get in the way, and seem to somewhat destroy the view.Therefor, I want a corner post removal button too!:D For both the 2D and VC views, although I usually use VC's for smaller aircraft. Not exactly real, but lack of head movements aren't real either. Just call it a compromise, as so much of flight simming is......anyway.L.Adamson
December 12, 200520 yr Some panel post's can be removed by means of 'Shift+' options. As per the default 737.Dave T. .........On the Devon Riviera and active 'FlightSim User's Group' member at http://www.flightsimgrpuk.free-online.co.uk/ Dave Taylor
December 12, 200520 yr Well, I like 2D centre posts! Even if I'm sometimes cursing them for blotting out the view on a curved approach. :)Of course it does help if they're in the right place, as Ed says.Didn't PSS put theirs back in the 777 after some complaints?Ian
December 12, 200520 yr If you are used to using a image editor, e.g. Paintshop Pro, it may be possible to simply block out the area of the offending post in the original bitmap (make a copy first). Simply use total black 255,255,255 as the colour.Regards,Stuart Hyett
December 12, 200520 yr Simple stuff. Grab yourself a copy of the GIMP (free image editor), and 0,0,0 is transparent. Paint it off yourself. :)I like having them, although I mostly use the VC.Daniel P.http://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/supporter.jpgMember of SJU Photography. December 12, 200520 yr Fly the Leveld 767, center post in 2D does not obstruct normal viewing in my opinion.
December 12, 200520 yr Hi,I for one like centerposts. However, unfortunately many developers have difficulties with proportions. :-) (One horrible example is the MD80 panel from Lago.)That is why I modify 95% of all panels myself, inorder to get a more accurate placement of the centerpost. ;-)Came to think about the old Caravelle panel. In real life those multipple centerpost really caused some serious view problems at crosswind landings.....But unfortunately there was no button to click on to remove them. :-lol Even the DC and MD panels can be completely different if the centerpost is edited. here are two examples. :-hahhttp://www.scandicair.com/images/arc5.jpghttp://www.scandicair.com/images/lmd6.jpghttp://www.scandicair.com/images/sa_banner.gif Staffan
December 12, 200520 yr PPOV's rule! :-bang I would not be without my centerposts!:9http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/135470.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/135471.jpg regardsEd http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v640/edetroit100/edley.gifAMD Athlon 64 3500+, 1024Mb PC3200 DDR, 300Gb HD 128Mb DDR Nvidia 6600GT PCI Express, Audigy 2 ZSCH Products Yoke, Pedals and Throttle Quadrant My FS Videos
