FSX Acceleration dll.xml file in roaming folder corrupted how to fix?

Recommended Posts

I have been fighting for weeks to fix an assumed corrupted dll.xml file that changed after an addon.  I renamed it and ran FSX without one and still had my menus but without the addons, except the REX WX Advantage Radar in the addons pull down. I must have another file that is allowing the menus to show while flying but I can's find out where.  Any help would be appreciated.  I also have an out of place picture of the aircraft picked when I choose another airport from the startup screen.  Even without the dll.xml file active.  Must be simple but not for me.  I need help.....fisheye

Don't you have a dll.xml_before this or that? usually fsx makes a back up when installing something new so you can always go back to that. Use the back up and look in the manual from the add on ( normally the entry for the xml is in there) and edit the xml with notepad manually.

FSX will recreate the DLL/EXE XML files if it doesn't find them, but it doesn't know about any Third Party addons, such as WX Advantage Radar, AS16, etc.

If you can't find a backup containing those missing entries, then you'll either have to manually add them using a text editor as Herman mentioned, or reinstall the addon so that it can add it.

If you only have a few, then perhaps someone from the community can post the missing entries, so you can cut and paste them into the appropriate XML file.

I don't have WX Advantage Radar, so sadly I can't help on that one.

You can upload your suspect DLL.XML file, and check it for formatting errors that might be preventing it from working. It might be something as simple as a missing "<" or ">" bracket, a spurious punctuation symbol, or an imbedded TAB (that would not be visible in Notepad).

I have included my dll.xml file and pictures of my problem.  I have attached four pictures.  Picture "1st startup aOK"  shows starting up FSX without the dll.xml file active in the roaming folder.  It shows a normal screen and I then startup a flight.  "1st startup bOK" shows the menus across the top as normal but without all of my addon programs showing.  "2nd startup screen with dll.xml" showing the extra picture of the aircraft on the screen which also causes slow loading of the sim and menu bars not working but still loading with everything slow in the sim.  "2nd startup flight with dll.xml" in sim shows all of my menus working properly but with slow loading of scenery and panel.  I am puzzled for sure. Check out my dll.xml file and see if you see any errors.  Thanks, fisheye

Hi Fisheye, you sure have an impressive dll.xml and the only thing I can see is a missing line in the first alinea ( the dll.xml one), the closing line is missing there ( </ Launch.Addon> ) but like JRBarret said, nobody can check it like this, if you open it up with Notepad++ then you will see a lot of signs that are not there now and they are the ones that have to be correct so send your dll.xml to the link he gave to check it out,

Herman

I just went to the link you referred to with both the dll.xml and exe.xml ahd it said that there were no errors in either file.  Thanks for the help and link.  I guess I will have to look elsewhere.  Any suggestions?

I just opened the files in notepad++ and it also didn't show anything different except it yellow highlighted the ? in the first line at each end.  I don't understand this program very well since I just downloaded it at your suggestion.

I don't see anything obviously wrong in your posted file. You do seem to have a very large number of add-on DLLs being launched. My only theory is that perhaps one of those DLLs is corrupt, and is preventing the others from loading properly. Either that, or a specific DLL, while not being corrupt in and of itself, may not "play nicely" with other loaded DLLs.

I see that you have FSUIPC, and that it is listed 6 entries up from the bottom of the list. I do NOT know if this is accurate or not, but I recall seeing another post here in the last few weeks from another user who was having DLL.XML problems, that the FSUIPC entry should be the last entry - (or second-to-last if you have Active Sky, which loads a DLL called as_btstrp.dll, which should always be last).

You could try using cut and paste to move the FSUIPC entry to the bottom.

I see you have couatl (bglmanx.dll), so I assume you probably have some FSDT or FlightBeam sceneries. That program is known to cause problems. Before doing anything else, I'd suggest downloading and running the latest stand-alone add-on manager updater from the FSDT web site.

https://www.fsdreamteam.com/products_addonmanager.html

Be sure to run it as administrator. Then try loading FSX again.

If updating couatl doesn't help, my only other suggestion would be to edit your DLL.XML and change the "disabled" field to "true" for every entry currently marked "false". That will prevent each DLL so marked from loading. Then, one by one, change each entry back to "false" in the disabled field, loading FSX again after each edit. (I see there are already a few disabled entries, like TrafficToolBox).

This is time-consuming, but it may help to find if a specific DLL is a culprit.
