Is EzDok a good replacement for a POV hat?

Ray, I won't talk bad about ChasePlane, and not going to praise Ezdok because I in beta test for EZCA2. Just want to draw attention to one feature of Ezdok about which few people know. In addition to a powerful management system cameras EZCA2.5 has a very realistic system effects (vibration in turbulence, head movement of the pilot, shaking when moving on the ground). View the author's video program on the latest version.

Hi Nick,

I watched a video last evening of CP and it had both those features. To be honest that wouldn't be the deciding factor for me. EzDok looks attractive because I can still use it without an internet connection. My main requirement is to be able to setup views of the internal VC of Concorde and around 3 or 4 external of the aircraft. I imagine both can do that.

Does EzDok also utilise the centre mouse button for moving around a selected view? It would be very helpful if these programs had a 7 day trial period. Sadly, neither does,

Hi Ray,

I use the G13 specifically for that purpose, however I don't use the joystick.
In EzDok (and ChasePlane) you define custom views (AP, Radio stack, overhead, whatever you want)
These custom views can be assigned to a key, like Ctrl-Shift-F1. I link the programmable keys of the G13 to these key strokes.
Works fluently.

About EzDok versus ChasePlane.
I have both but for now I reverted back to EzDok.
Since ChasePlane still is in alpha release, it caused some issues on my system. Don't have the time to extensively troubleshoot.
Had used EzDok since version one and like it pretty much.

Egbert

That's very helpful, thanks Egbert. I assume you can also assign external views. I'm using SimpleCam by Aivlasoft at present for VC views but you're limited to the NumPad and of course it's internal only.

I'm going to swap a GoFlight T8 unit for a P8 unit which will give me an extra 8 buttons. That will negate the need for another USB device as I'm short of desk space.

Hi, Ray!

Move around the cockpit EZdok happens with the buttons "arrow" on the keyboard simultaneously with the gaze direction with the mouse. In my opinion, it is very convenient. EZdok has no trial period but within 30 days you have the opportunity to refund and fully recover the money spent. Within a month, I think you can evaluate the program and understand it suits you or not.

Thanks Egbert. I started to watch the official EzDok video this morning but even with the voice-over in English the accent made it difficult to follow. Instead I watched a Frooglesim review of v2 and he likes a fair amount of it.

What he had reservations about were the aircraft parameters for the visual effects. It could cause problems with the fine tuning of aircraft dynamics. Perhaps in their efforts to make the product more attractive they're putting things in which shouldn't be there. The lack of any reset option in those settings also concerned him.

I'm wondering why ChasePlane has this significant performance hit on the sim. Is it because of all these fancy effects they've introduced? The 'breathing pilot' option that shows slight movement when viewing the instruments seems bizarre. But if that's using CPU cycles then there has to be a hit. Can these all be turned off so you just have static views? Is that how most of you use ChasePlane?

I'm between a rock and a hard place. EzDok has much to offer but I'm put off by the ergonomics of the program. Then again it doesn't require an internet connection to work which is a big plus. I'm going to watch (and post) on the ChasePlane forum as there are a couple of issues that really need clearing up before it becomes a viable alternative.

In version EZCA2 could really be the effects on the dynamics of the aircraft, but version 2.5 has fixed that. In any case, the effects can be turned off completely. Now our team is preparing the English manual in printed form, I think it will help new users easily learn EZdok Camera.

Nick,

Is v2.5 compatible with P3D v3.4 or only 64-bit P3D v4? If I buy v2 now is the update free?

Is there a performance hit with these effects enabled? If so by how much?

When is v2.5 due out?

Ray,

EZCA2.5 compatible with FSX (+SE), P3D version 3.2/3.3/3.4 (I'll fly so far in 3.2) and P3D4. The only limitation is that Windows (7 or 10) should be 64 bit.

With effects or without effects, EZCA doesn't require much CPU (usually around 0.7%) because it uses Assembly language when writing, without the use of heavy frameworks based on the Microsoft .NET.

The program is constantly updated, and free for purchasers of version 2. For example, at the moment we are solving some problems recently appeared Aerosoft CRJ. EZCA is currently working with this aircraft is good, but some experimental functions control of VC view from the publisher of the aircraft require a special approach for conflict-free operation.

Version 2.5, though is in beta version, but freely available to those who purchased version EZCA2 and is stable version. We are working on version 2.6, there are a lot of changes for ease of configuration. All of these improvements absolutely free for our users. The latest version is always available in the first post on the forum:

Thanks Nick. Sounds like the assembler language is less of a performance hit than the .NET used perhaps by ChasePlane.

This is the case. The main task EZCA is functionality with maximum performance, maybe a bit to the detriment of convenience and beauty UI, but when we fly, the beauty of the flight itself :)

I used Ezdok 1.x from years with Fsx and switched to V2 with P3Dv4. This is an excellent good followed and supported program ! Never had a problem.

Regards,

Same, I used v1 for years and ended up with v2.  Never tried chaseplane though but a performance hit isn't something i'd like to subscribe to.  EZ Dok does all I need although once FlyInside comes back out for v4 I most likely won't need it.  VR allows you to just look and click accordingly without per set camera views.

When all your keys are assigned to all your views, the UI is no more a concern because you don't see it any more, so using EZDOK or ChasePlane make no difference, the result is what we are looking for.

I am using EZDOKv2 and very satisfied with results. All views are very easy to program and use. I don't like engine vibrations, so I disable those in the UI and it's very easy to do. I don't like to be connected to internet to use the program, so the choice was easy to do...

Hahaha,
You should have seen V1... V2 has much improved, but agreed it doesn't look as fancy as ChasePlane.
For me the looks/ergonomics are not that important, because it is more or less a fire-and-forget application.
Only the initial defining of your view takes some time but is very easy to do. After that you don't need the interface anymore.
(provided you use something like the G13)

The 'effect engine' I don't use at all. Simply don't like it and have switched it off.

Mike / Egbert,

I accept that once you have defined your views you won't access the utility that often. But I must have watched over half a dozen videos on YT and the overriding view of most was that setting up EzDok was not that straight-forward. In comparison CP was a breeze.

I would have bought CP by now except for the fact that all your settings are stored on the cloud. That really troubles me. Ever heard the expression "don't put all your eggs in one basket?" What happens if that server is hacked or you lose your internet connection? No access to a program you have bought legitimately. And if major organisations around the world are being hacked it's a strange way to go for a FS utility.

The author of CP has indicated he will reconsider this decision when the program is finished. I'm going to hold off until then as it's not my highest priority at present.
