missing effect - fx_strobex.fx

Featured Replies

There are other posts in here relating to a missing effects file - fx_strobex.fxI have the same problem - FS9 is constantly looking for it.It's not an FS9 standard file, obviously in re-installing FS9 at some point I have copied an aircraft back into the live folder without also restoring the related effect.Does anybody know where I can get it, or which aircraft it belongs to?

Hi there, sorry, I don't have the fx file and don't know the aircraft that uses it.Perhaps stating the obvious but how about making a copy of your existing fx_strobe.fx and renaming it to fx_strobex.fx?Cheers, Holger

Yes, thanks, I have done that, but would rather have it right.I got the FileMon program from SysInternals to try and track down why I'm getting CTD's - instead of that it's showing up a whole bunch of problems, a nightmare, a wonder I was ever getting off the ground at all!

Bit more informationIt's associated with the FSPainter Boeing 772V3....

It's nothing special, just a strobe - maybe the aircraft.cfg call was missplelled in the first place. Just correct it in the .cfg and be done with it, or just leave it as you've done it.unless of course somewhere out there is some wonderful unusual effect called strobexregards,Markhttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/747400.jpgXPHomeSP2/FS9.1/3.2HT/1024mb/X700pro256

Hey,As I was reading your post I took a quick in my effects folder and there they were, two files, fx_strobe.fx and fx_strobeh.fx, I have no idea where I got em at this stage or what A/C they belong to. If no rules are stepped on I guess I can send them to you. Both small files.Douglas B-707 Ret.:-bigangel

Somebody else out there in the forum said they found it, but neglected to say where!Anyway, thanks, have sorted it for now, back to seeing if I can find the reason for the CTD's!

I know I am a little late to the party here.I had the same problem. I found the strobe effect file in the Premier Aircraft Diamond DA20-C1 Evolution. I don't know what aircraft I have that was trying to access that effect. I was flying the Aerosim L-1011-500 at the time I noticed the file was missing.

Bit off topic but related. I was tracking with filemon the other day using the default cessna. I noticed that when looking for a gauge FS9 search several paths before finally going to the gauges dir. I realize that it's milliseconds but I'm just wondering why and is that normal. Any thoughts guys?

I wonder if that's because FS has a look in the panel folder first before going to the main gauge folder .

Well I can understand having to access the panel folder first. But then it looks in the FS9 root directory and a few other places just seems like a waste of time and thence possible slight stuttering.

There's a lot of it about!Do you think the default aircraft get messed up if you mess around with partial reinstallation of FS9?Can't imagine the default aircraft ought to be doing that normally.Never quite clear whether some of these files should be there as individual files or in their compressed .cab form. Maybe copying them off the FS9 CD rather than installing is putting them in incorrectly? Also interesting to note that a number of prestige payware add-ons are checking their registration keys all the time. Can understand why they need to do that when you load the program up, but every few milliseconds?

I had the same problem. I did a search on google for fx_strobex.fx and found the file on avsim.ru (http://www.avsim.ru/zip.phtml?id=1972) which was an aircraft designed by Premier Aircraft Design. The link to download (get version 2)http://www.premaircraft.com/fs24_kat/index.htmlThe Diamond KATANA has those effect files as well as others that I saw AI aircraft looking for that are not standard FS9 effect files. I was losing alot of CPU cycles on this problem. Big gain in performance. This file also includes the texture for the effects. The FSP 777-200 and 300v3 and the fsp 772 aeromexico AI Mexico were looking for this effects file.Hope this helps!
