Sorry but I think you are mixing different things up here. I am not talking about payware developers changing files on your system. I'm not sure which payware add-ons do this or why they would. That wasn't the topic of this thread. What I am talking about is the fact that when you load a default MS aircraft certain deeply-embedded items on the code, particularly inside gauge files, are set back to some default setting. I'm no expert so can't give chapter and verse unfortunately. If you load an add-on that re-setting does not happen and thus can and does cause problems, not least with our own offerings from PSS. It's random and it's not something we can do anything about. Other posts on this thread would seem to support what I am saying. I suspect your last post betrays a deeply-held distrust of the motives of payware developers which is perhaps not entirely fair. By the way I'm just one of those combative support people you talk about but sadly I don't get paid for this.Rob Elliott, EGPE InvernessPSS Airbus Support andAirbus Fleet Training Captain, British Airways Virtual [email protected]http://www.speedbirdonline.co.uk/airbus.htmlhttp://www.bavirtual.co.uk

Hi there,if you load one of the FLT files into Wordpad you'll see why starting flights from saved situations can easily introduce problems: there are probably 150-200 parameters that get saved whith each situation, plus the accompanying wx weather file.(the default flight is called flightsim.flt an is located in "FS9Flightsother") In fact, some of the CTDs reported in these forums and elsewhere would probably disappear if people used a different flight situation for testing.Cheers, Holger

"The problem has been created by Microsoft..."This excuse is a new one on me. I'm accustomed to the one that it's the customer's computer that's at fault: I haven't heard Microsoft blamed before.

Hi TV,Even outside of wearing my PSS hat I note that most add on developers, certainly the commercial ones, advocate the loading of a default aircraft prior to loading their product. >While there are many things that you can blame MS for, and I>do my share of it, this is not something that you can blame it>on them. Sorry! None of their planes could by any stretch of the imagination could be termed complex. >Their planes work fine in any sequence. If>someone decides to circumvent the recommended procedures than>they should know what they are doing, or not do it.Remember that outside of the SDK anything we know is limited; this is not all open architecture. The only sure way is to have the information. Microsoft dont make that available.>On the other hand a Payware company that goes and>modifies files on your system, without your knowledge, just to>make their code work, it

Presumably you knew you didn't have it before you began to develop and market payware That to me sounds like not knowing what "they are doing." Also, you can't blame Microsoft for not releasing information - it's no obligation to and never said it would. I imagine you don't provide detailed information about the workings of your products. Do you even provide an SDK? >>On the other hand a Payware company that goes and>>modifies files on your system, without your knowledge, just>to>>make their code work, it

>You admit that you don't have the information? I do support. What other information do I need to do support? Hint in case you still missed it - I dont develop. I provide support.>Also, you can't blame Microsoft for not releasing>information - it's no obligation to and never said it would. I>imagine you don't provide detailed information about the>workings of your products. Do you even provide an SDK? I didnt realise I had said I would. Then again there is no obligation to do so.>You admit you modify files on your customer's system? I must have missed that bit too. Care to show me where I said I modified files?

OK.Substitute "PSS" for "you" throughout my post and let us have another reply.I wouldn't have thought that would be necessary as you publish your PSS affiliation in your signature, but...

>Substitute "PSS" for "you" throughout my post and let us have>another reply. Why when I clearly stated that I was posting as me?>I wouldn't have thought that would be necessary as you publish>your PSS affiliation in your signature, but...Its a general setting in the forum software. Its like for example if you had a Level D image and posted in the PSS forum, I certainly wouldn't (read don't) throw a fit.

"You admit that you don't have the information? Presumably you knew you didn't have it before you began to develop and market payware. That to me sounds like not knowing what "they are doing." That applies to every single add-on aircraft developer. You really seem to have a downer on add-on payware aircraft developers so I assume you don't use payware aircraft at all."Also, you can't blame Microsoft for not releasing information - it's no obligation to and never said it would"No but it does make life harder for the developer who has to make certain assumptions and is working to a certain extent with his/her hands tied. Just look at the contents of an .air file and you'll see there are plenty of parameters that no-one outside of MS has a clue about what they are there for. And then when you get all the interactions between what MS have developed and what add-on developers do there is plenty of scope for things to not go always 100% correctly. But despite the odd glitches add-on developers have taken simulation to heights that Microsoft never could have done on their own. We owe them a great deal.Rob Elliott, EGPE InvernessPSS Airbus Support andAirbus Fleet Training Captain, British Airways Virtual [email protected]http://www.speedbirdonline.co.uk/airbus.htmlhttp://www.bavirtual.co.uk

My default loading is "Previous Flight" saved with the PMDG B1900. Thus it always loads from the last field I landed at. TO me it is not realistic, to fly somewhere, then load the aircraft at a different field. I'd have to take a Plane, Train, Bus, Taxi to get back to that field from where ever I was. ;-} Ive never had a problem doing this, no gas starvation or creeping if I leave it with the engines running. Why? Because, if you click on the little airplaine Icon, and set your Idle levers to a proper idle level for the aircraft, it will not creep even if the brakes are not on.... You also need Sensitivities and Null levels set properly for your system. Each computer, and control unit is different, if not set to your own combination, control surfaces and throttle will not operate correctly. My Null is set, so that I can move the controls, including throttle very slightly, and surfaces do not move. Sensitivity is set so that I get full movement of surfaces, only with full movement of the controls.

I just assumed that anyone who mentions a developer 3 times in his signature, including its e-mail address, was replying on behalf of the developer.

>I just assumed that anyone who mentions a developer 3 times>in his signature, including its e-mail address, was replying>on behalf of the developer. If I had a loving for chocolate (I do but lets not digress) and had an image depicting chocolate, would you also assume I sold chocolate?Quite clearly you are picking and choosing the bits you wish to read and that is your prerogative. I, however have answered the original author's post, outlining that I was replying as an individual and not in any official capacity and as such giving my personal opinion. Thanks,

Having read every post here I have one question and 'hope' there is one answer as I am now more confused than ever. :>)Is the correct, safest proceedure to -1) load the Default Cessna at SEA. Count to 3, THEN, and only THEN, to load whatever other add-on I wish and then go to whatever airport I wish?Well, I guess I have two questions- if that is true, how should I then open a saved flight in any of my add-on aircraft?

I don't understand what chocolate's got to do with anything - this is after all a flight simulation site. I can see why you must be a valuable member of PSS's support team.
