FS9 starts with your chosen flight saved as default by chcking the make default flight option when you save it with its saved state. It is loaded before the menus come up. If you are an FSUIPC user you will see it in the FSUIPC.log text file. There should be no need to load that flight again. My default flight is the Baron parked at a small airport location cold and dark with the clear weather theme. I find this works well with create a flight or for those aircraft that need a simple default loaded before bringing them up. This way that extra step is omitted. I do not need to load the out of the box Cessna default actively, for example, prior to loading the PMDG 737NG. Even with create a flight since my default is cold and dark most of the aircraft is shut down on creating a new one.

not urban legend. Loading the Cessna at a default airfield will reset many things to their defaults which is how many addons would like them to be.

>not urban legend. >Loading the Cessna at a default airfield will reset many>things to their defaults which is how many addons would like>them to be.OK, this is as good a time to ask this question as any. :-)I've seen this recommendation and explanation many times. I don't know enough detail to say whether or not it's valid, but I can say that I have NEVER started my flights with either the default Cessna or at SEA, and I don't have any recurrent issues. Can someone explain, in detail, what specifically is not reset or what will go wrong if I start with the Carenado C182 at KFIT, or the Flight1 C172 at KPIE? I want to better understand, because it seems like urban legend. Even if this recommendation solves some issues in very isolated cases, why is it touted as a recommendation for every user and every flight? If it is vital to load the defaults, then why don't I and many others see problems when we don't follow this advice? As I said, I have many, many addons and NEVER start at SEA or with default aircraft.

It doesn't have to be the Cessna, but failure to load one of the default aircraft with avionics ON at the start of your FS session can lead to problems if you are flying one of the PSS aircraft, particularly the Airbus family. It doesn't to everyone but one example is that the batteries will drain down after about 20 minutes. You can correct this through the FSUIPC indefinite battery life setting but it's one of the effects that we've seen. We always recommend pilots start with a default aircraft (I start with the Boeing 737) with avionics on then switch to a cold anda dark Airbus.Rob Elliott, EGPE InvernessPSS Airbus Support andAirbus Fleet Training Captain, British Airways Virtual [email protected]http://www.speedbirdonline.co.uk/airbus.htmlhttp://www.bavirtual.co.uk

It's not very convenient but it's true. Dodgy programming. What are the chances it'll still be necessary in FSX?Pyjamas

Another point to consider..if you start with a addon aircraft, and decide to delete it without changing the default plane, you can't open FS at all...voice of exasperated experiance here :-)

Actually, I think that if you go to the "create a flight" screen, you can start FS with pretty much anything that you want. There is no question, however, that any number of 3rd Party A/C have to have a default A/C ( doesn't have to be a default flight) loaded before you can load them and they will function.Ed GreenKCLThttp://www.panelshop.com/DEV.jpg

As noted in my first reply above, I changed the default flight as described. If I loaded a flight saved with engines off via fuel cut-off, before I made the change when I loaded it the engines would be up and then starve to shut down. If I created a flight the engines would be running. Either could cause aircraft creep if the engines were powerful enough. The PMDG FAQ recommends loading the Cessna default flight. When I loaded a saved PMDG 737 parked airccraft, the engines would initially be at idle which defeated my intial attempt to engage ground power until they spun down after starving. Saving the Baron as default flight with shutdown engines and lights off but battery on cured my loading problem with the 737 and others. For complex aircraft I still have to engage ground power or fire up the APU and transfer power. For the simpler aircraft it solved the engine first on problem.

Hi Jim.>start FS with the default Cessena then load everything

>Actually, I think that if you go to the "create a flight">screen, you can start FS with pretty much anything that you>want.>>There is no question, however, that any number of 3rd Party>A/C have to have a default A/C ( doesn't have to be a default>flight) loaded before you can load them and they will>function.Maybe there are two reasons then that I (and possibly others) never have issues and don't load defaults first. First, I always start at create a flight and either load an IFR flight plan or just fly VFR in the chosen area. Second, 99% of the time I'm flying simple, single engine props, with the most complex avionics being RXP Garmins. Maybe if I was flying the heavies more this would be more of a factor?

What rubbish! The problem has been created by Microsoft changing the programming on FS9 and the parameters the default flight loads. It is not caused by a lack of programming skills in any 3rd party add-on.Rob Elliott, EGPE InvernessPSS Airbus Support andAirbus Fleet Training Captain, British Airways Virtual [email protected]http://www.speedbirdonline.co.uk/airbus.htmlhttp://www.bavirtual.co.uk

If a simulated airplane calls for loading a specific default first, considering the default files contain required coding, then I simply load the default the first time around, and then save a flight with the new plane and scenario. I figure that when the saved flight loads during later sessions, it's also loading the required default files, weather starting cold and dark, or not. For me, this has always worked.L.Adamson

Two examples that I can think of off of the top of my head are the outstanding A-300 and Super Caravalle panels by Benoit Gaurant. These are terrific panels, freeware, and do a lot of complex system modelling. They are certainly well and thoughtfully executed in my humble...In both cases, the recommendation is to load a default aircraft first and then the add-on A/C. I can verify that it works if you do it that way and that it doesn't if you don't.I'm sure there are any number of other examples.Ed GreenKCLThttp://www.panelshop.com/DEV.jpg
