March 14, 200620 yr >She's is flyable until you put in the last notch of flaps,>she's not flyable after that. I can't imagine the real plane>is that hard to keep in the air fully configured for landing.I agree. after full flaps, the plane drops like a stone. ricardo
March 14, 200620 yr I am not sure what to suggest. I just tried 3 ILS approaches. I did 2 with the AP and flew the third by hand. On all three I used basically the same procedure.Once established on the LOC intercept heading for the procedure I had my speed stabilized at 170-180kias. On LOC intercept I add the first notch of flaps and stabilized my speed around 150kias. One dot above the GS gear down & full flaps. GS intercept happens pretty quickly after and I established 140kias all the way down to the DA. The AP held the LOC and GS to DA just about perfectly. Adding the last notch of flaps so close to the start of the decent did make the AP play catch-up a little in that I was a half a dot high for a short while on the descent.I also tried a few VFR trips around the pattern both hand flown and with the AP. Using similar speeds for downwind, base & final I had the same smooth results. I just can
March 14, 200620 yr the ILS problem occurs, but only very occasionally.I've flown dozens of approaches with the autopilot, and only once or twice did it give problems.I therefore suspect it's just something I once in a long while do wrong rather than a fault with the aircraft.Others of course blame everything on the aircraft, never even think something going wrong or working differently from their expectations might be operator error.

March 15, 200620 yr Just as another voice, I have never had a problem with the AP on the Avanti, but I certainly know what you mean. I've had that occasionally with other aircraft. And it is a slippery fellow.. I love flying it.
March 15, 200620 yr IsmetM,I too find it a bit hard to fly, but for what it's worth I have a friend (mentor really) who has quite a few hours in a real Avanti. He says that's pretty much the way she really flies.
March 15, 200620 yr Hi AllI do not have the Piaggio Avanti from FSD, but I can speak about the ILS problems encountered in FS2004.Since I purchased FS9 several years ago I noticed on some ILS approaches when you activate the approach button when capturing the localizer that both the heading and Altitude indicator go out. When this happens I know that I can capture the localizer but the glide slope will not be captured and I manually fly the plane to the runway.Other times when the heading and altitude light remain lit, the localizer and glide slope are captured. This does not just effect one aircraft but all aircraft in my livery including pay ware and the default aircraft.I have had some success in turning off the autopilot master switch when the glide slope reaches the centre mark, then clicking onto approach and reactivating the autopilot master switchHopes this all makes sense.Kenny G..
March 15, 200620 yr I rarely land the FSD Avanti with full flaps. 98% of the time, one notch is enough for me. Coming in at the right approach speed with one notch of flaps, she glides in beautifully nearly every time. I usually aim for about 125-130kias on final. I don't remember how it handled full flaps, it's been eons since I've last done it..... Declared weather: FSX: ASN / FS9: ASE
March 15, 200620 yr Thanks Charles (Heron). That's the kind of info that is of particular interest to me. If the FS version is close to the real version then that makes it more interesting no matter how difficult it is to fly. After all, it's the challenge of mastering the idiosyncrasies of an aircraft that makes flying so interesting. Thanks for everyone else's too. On balance basedf on what has been written here and other sources on Avsim I'm gonna give the FSD a try in a short while.
March 15, 200620 yr Author i recently purchased this plane and had a couple problems. I both emailed the owner of FSD and filled out their online response form about 10 days ago but never received a response, so maybe someone here would know the answer better than the fsd fellows:i have no flood lights in the vc...cant see anything at night in there...ive tried using both 2d and 3d switches as well the "L" key but nothing brings light into the vc cockpitalot of the 3d switches in the vc do not function...they are all animated and move when clicked but have zero effect...you have to use the 2d switches insteadi havent been able to find a fix posted anywhere and was wondering if anyone might have an answer for me?ThanksDave Dave Kalin Excel Classes Computer Lessons
