April 13, 200521 yr I saw this post as linked here, which MS is targeting at very poor countries. Its Windows, but an extremely limited/lite version. I wonder...in a dual boot environment...if this might not be PERFECT for gaming? I would love a WinXP version with ZERO overhead. http://yahoo.reuters.com/financeQuoteCompa...13111598_newsmlEric AND
April 14, 200521 yr The article says:"The Starter Edition is a simplified version of Windows XP, oriented at users who have never had a computer or have little computer experience. It can open only three programs at the same time, with a maximum of three windows for each program and cannot connect to computer networks."Would this be adequate for FS? Gerry Howard
April 14, 200521 yr Unfortunate I don't think this is on MSDN Suscriber downloads otherwise I would try it out.You probably won't be able to run any add-ons that are actually programs (Active Sky, Radar Contact, FSAutoStart lol....)
April 14, 200521 yr "...cannot connect to computer networks."Wouldn't that mean no Internet? No Vatsim in that case!
April 14, 200521 yr correct. It's meant for third world countries where internet access isn't generally available.Mainly to be used on lowend laptops in remote areas where the only available powersupply may be a solar collector or a diesel generator.
April 14, 200521 yr Author Eric - XPlite is an interesting option ( http://www.litepc.com/xplite.html ). I've tried this on a dualboot system and it does, indeed, allow you to take take most all of the overhead out of XP :-). The only problem is that it made no difference at all in the performance of FS2004 :-(.DougP4 3.0C SL6WK @ 3.510 (1.600 VCore - 234 FSB) / Asus P4C800-E Deluxe (BIOS 1019) / 2x512MB Corsair TWINX CXM3700 (3-4-4-8) / 4x120GB WD 7200 IDE)/ Hercules 9800 Pro (128MB @ 410/360) / A-Open 1648 AAP Ripper / Plextor 708A Writer/ Enermax 431W PSU / Inwin Case / Intel HSF Intel 10700K @ 5.1Ghz, Asus Hero Maximus motherboard, Noctua NH-U12A cooler, Corsair Vengeance Pro 32GB 3200 MHz RAM, RTX 2060 Super GPU, Cooler Master HAF 932 Tower, Thermaltake 1000W Toughpower PSU, Windows 10 Professional 64-Bit, 100TB of disk storage.
