All right you Moo Two Drivers....

Recommended Posts

Hi Folks,

OK - had the Moo Two for a while gathering dust - perhaps I never gave it a fair shake - so I grabbed the latest version and loaded it up in v4... I think part of my initial dislike - is everything in the VC seems congruous - all done to a certain level of quality - and perfectly acceptable to me - then there's that glaring little inoperative switch panel under the "No Yoke" flag that doesn't belong  - looks like someone taped a screenshot on the panel - every time I look around it catches my attention and I shake my head - it doesn't fit...

"No Yoke" tags need to be small and subtle - please look at Carenado or MilViz for an example...

OK - that aside the FDE was a bit sensitive in pitch - like standing on the end of a 12 foot long diving board - if was like that in real life you'd better have plenty of airsick bags - people would get sick - seriously... Found some numbers I like now - better - seems more plausible... I think I like the way it flies now...

[flight_tuning]
cruise_lift_scalar=1.0
parasite_drag_scalar=1.4
induced_drag_scalar=1.4
elevator_effectiveness=0.6
//ORG// elevator_effectiveness=0.5
aileron_effectiveness=0.5
rudder_effectiveness=1.0
pitch_stability=1.8
//ORG// pitch_stability=0.8
roll_stability=0.8
yaw_stability=1.0
elevator_trim_effectiveness=1.0
aileron_trim_effectiveness=1.0
rudder_trim_effectiveness=1.0

So - now that brings me to the "Altitude Selector" - LOL - I tried - really - how do you set it ??? I keep scrolling through the numbers and as I'm turning the knob - they reset to zero by themselves - - - "automagically" ???

Going to the config screen - I can't seem to set the chocks - the engine plugs - or the windscreen cover - they splash visible for a second - then vanish... Looks like the same type of screens used on the Lear but those work...

Granted - I haven't downloaded and read the manual yet - so I most certainly could be doing something wrong... Here's hoping that we have G1000 keys for the controls listed in there as well...

As far as skins - someone needs to introduce shading to this model (gulp) - and the white is blindingly harsh with HDR and ENVSHADE...

As long as I'm on a roll - if we could get landing lights more like this it would be GREAT... This is from the RA Duke ? Well - perhaps these are too bright - should light maybe a third of that runway with just a little less intensity to be realistic... Hopefully the Falcon will do away with the 3D light bloom in daylight as well - valiant effort but it doesn't work...

Pg_13_b.jpg

Anyway - just some thoughts, questions, and feedback - I know this plane has a following like the Lear...

I can see it has potential here - lol - help me like it...

Thanks for any help...

Regards,
Scott

Thanks Scott, I'll give those changes a try, I also thought the pitch was too sensitive. I still fly it in P3D 2.4 and don't seem to have those issues with setting "Altitude Selector". I do really enjoy this aircraft, but it took me about a dozen or so flights to get the hang of everything.

Thanks!

Martin

Hi Martin,

OK - thanks for the response... Hope it works well...

Hmm - is anyone using this on v4 - now I'm really curious on the "Altitude Selector" issue - am I the only one having it ? I did download the latest package with a native v4 installer - stopped and started my sim several times - no joy - unable to set a value in the "Altitude Selector" window... Gross conceptual error ?

Regards,

Scott

I have the Moo in v4 but very low hours so far in the new sim with it.

Will check it tonight when home.

Hey Scott, welcome to the Moo club. I have lots and lots of hours in it in FSX, and am building my hours in P3dv4. At the moment, I also have the issue with the chocks and the covers (but I don't have that issue on the Lear).

I don't have the altitude selector issue that you're describing in V4. I only use the scroll wheel to set the altitude on the selector, so maybe that's where I'm not seeing it.

As for the pitch sensitivity, I couldn't say if it was inaccurate or not. Without a forcefeedback yoke, I couldn't guess if FSW was on the right track or not with the sensitivity. I'll try to give your mod a go this evening and report back.

Please feel free to "mod-away" at this plane too. I love my Moo and would really like to see some work done on her (especially some different repaints--they are scarce).

PS: I have been putting some good time in with my new AirNet repaint for the lear that you did for us. I am loving it. :-)

Hi Scott,

Thanks - OK - then one confirmed bug... I'll report the config screens and see what they say... I've corresponded with the Flysimware Support guy - and Mark the Developer on different occasions - I think they're two different people...

Yep - I'm using the scroll wheel as well - spin it slow or spin it fast - in like a second of trying to change it - it sling shots back to 00000 - do not pass go - do not collect $200.00... One time I tried to play with it in flight - and it decided it like 95,000 or something like that not exactly sure how that got set... Same deal - unable to change it for more than a second - sling shots back even if I'm still actively spinning it modifying the setting... I've never seen this before in the countless aircraft I've flown in the sim...

Regards,
Scott

Hi, Scott.  Another Moo-Two driver here.  Right mouse click and *hold* on the altitude selector increases altitude and left click decreases, by 1000s.  Single click inc/dec by 100s.  Maybe set the brake to install the chocks and engine plugs?  I agree about the landing lights--they could illuminate the rnwy a little bit more.  The pitch sensitivity?  I don't know.  Will try your settings and see if I notice any difference.

Cheers!

Stew

Hi Stew,

Thanks for responding - yeah - tried the clicks - didn’t work either - odd...

I’ll try the brakes...

Yeah - the lines tagged above as //ORG// are the original values... I only changed two values...

Scott

I'm another who uses the scroll wheel on the knob selections and it does appear to be working in the VC v4.

And I'm also having the issue with chocks and the configuration panel.

Hi Henry,

Thanks for looking - altitude select - must be a problem on my end - I'll remove it and try a fresh install...

:wink:

Scott

Hi Scott, nice pitch adjustment.  So much better than default on my system anyway in p3d 4.1.  Makes hand flying an approach so much nicer.  Seeing how you made the adjustments I’m going to try it on the 441 Conquest since it is also a little twitchy.  Thanks again.

Hi Dave,

Happy to help... It's a fine line you want to walk - as you don't want to totally dampen out that balancing on a head of a pin feeling you get in the flare... I just wanted to reduce the oscillations that came with each pitch change as I don't think that is realistic... I know this model was tested by a "real world owner" who actively participated in the development - but - honestly - unless he's really into flight simulator as well - things like this could be easily overlooked...

Surprisingly the Lear doesn't have this issue and the FDE is probably what I like most about it - well that and the autopilot - wait the sounds are awesome too - yep - great package overall and not much I'd change there...

Regards,
Scott

Hi, Scott.

I had a chance to made the mods (but forgot to post until now).

Yes, I think you've hit the sweet spot on the pitch. I still felt the inherent instability that I think is unique to the Moo, especially dirty and slow. But, with your mod, I had an easier time keeping the passengers from ruining the interior. (having awful flashbacks of RW sick passengers in the XP right now)

I think it's a winner, and thanks for the effort!

Now, where'd you lay that paint brush of yours; I know it's around here somewhere....

:-)

Hi Scott,

Honestly - I haven't tested it in all flight regimens - nice to know it improves things...

Hah - yeah - been there too... One of the first flights I took my wife up for while dating - we left on an autumn day with a few light bumps - these were LIGHT bumps - I could tell something was up because she stopped talking - at first I thought she had a headset problem - I kept asking if she was OK and all I got were head nods - obviously something was wrong - so before we made it 10 miles from the airport I turned around and headed back for a landing - I kept asking her if she was OK - she kept nodding in the affirmative... We got back to the hangar - shutdown and removed the headsets - and - again I'm like are you OK - she nodded yet again - then opened her jacket with a sheepish look - ouch - she sacrificed herself to save the plane - LOL - I knew right then she was a keeper... We've fought motion sickness ever since - I now carry trash bags in my flight bag - she still gets in and is a real trooper - I call her "10 mile Jackie" which usually results with a well deserved solid punch in my arm...

Regards,
Scott
