Gerard's All months preset set : P3D v4.x

Recommended Posts

Hi Gerard,

Admittedly I haven't tried your v12 presets yet - but I was wondering if you could help me.  I love your presets, but even on a moonless night, my clouds are clearly visible and fairly bright.  Tried turning HDR down from 1.2 to 0.8 and even then they are still visible.

Is there something in PTA I can change, that would theoretically change them to being invisible at night?  Or make them much darker at night?  I am wondering what specific setting I need to have a look at.

Cheers for any help you can offer,

Rudy 🙂

Do you know which specific setting in PTA does this, Gerard?

As in can I just adjust the night brightness, or will it affect them at day too?

Thanks!

Rudy

Hi Gerard,

I'm using your all month package as I love them except for one (not little) thing: though the outside scenery is very good, all virtual cockpits are too dark.

Following your recommendation I increases the Ambient sunlight to a higher value (as much as 2!) but even so I prefer the VC looking without using PTA!

That is a pity because the outside landscape without PTA is bad!

Do you have any suggestions I can try to make VC lighter?

Many thanks!

Hi there - try the VC lighting section in PTA.  I set mine to around 2.5/2.5

y for the suggestion. I fiddle with those numbers but was not able to find  acceptable numbers (I do have now 1.40 for Ambient sunlight).

When you say 2.50/2.50 is for the first options of the VC lighting parameters, i.e, Ambient sunlight and Diffuse sunlight?

Working on V13. P3Dv4.x has the shaders working slightly different and several Expressions I made working are not like they should. So I checked them all and modified where necessary.

Also the dawn/dusk I remade , so it will look better. If you purchase Atmosphere URP and use their Sky Textures with my new preset ( to be released next weekend ) with an improved Sun, then you can even have it look like this :

Hi Gerard,

I'm new to P3D but been around flight simming since before FS98. I recently purchased PTA and have been trying out different Presets in my P3D V4.2. Your "All Months" presets are my favorite by far! I love how they make the ground textures and sky textures jump out! Beautiful. The clouds look so lifelike. I really love the way your textures make the night lighting look in P3D. The default night lighting was always too bright in my opinion. Your preset makes the sky truly dark as it should be. The external view of the aircraft is dark and the ground textures have just a hint of moonlight. It's as close to real as any preset I've tried so far. GREAT WORK! Thanks for sharing with the community!

Any news on how your All Months v13 presets are coming along? I'm excited and anxious to try them once your finished. 🙂

Thanks!

Chuck

I just switched to P3Dv4.3 and the default settings make me realize how great and valuable your tweaks are!  Looking forward to being able to install them as soon as PTA gets updated!

Gerard,

Thanks again for your contributions! Where can I download latest presets for P3d v4.3?

Hey Gerald -- for some reason the link on the first post gets a file not found error in Chrome (latest). The link immediately above works fine.

Did I do something wrong?

Love these shaders Gerard, thank you for taking the time and sharing.

Just out of interest are the shaders specific to the northern or southern hemisphere? obviously December in the UK is somewhat different to December in Australia for instance.

To use them in the southern hemisphere  just add 6 months to the presets .

Eg jan —> july

Of course if I'd spent less time in awe looking at the view I might have been able to work that out for myself  thanks again Gerard.

The v.13 link is dead.

I edited the link to correct a typo in the url ("M" in months vs "m")

Cheers
