February 27, 20188 yr Hi, I've noticed that the strobe lights only flash when the nosewheel is off the ground. Is this a MD design feature? I was under the impression that strobes were mandatory when you entered a runway. Cheers!
February 27, 20188 yr I believe it is a design feature, the TFDI 717 has the same thing when it first came out and I believe this is a feature/option of that aircraft family. TFDI added the option for strobes to operate on the ground as I understand it is an option in the RW. February 28, 20188 yr For the 717 it is an optional orderfeature. Not sure if it was available for the MD80s. Greetings Andrew Bowler
March 3, 20188 yr Commercial Member It is a normal feature available on the MD-80. The previous Maddog had to have the strobes switched on, in this new product the work automatically, triggered by the WOW circuit. Best wishes. March 3, 20188 yr Thats also why we set Coll. and Strobe light switch to Both during pre-start. Normally (on Boeings etc.) You would not turn the Strobes on before being cleared to enter the Runway.
