May 30, 200620 yr Does anyone know of a tool that will change the weather in FS9 a bit more dynamically? It would be great to be able to set completely different weather conditions for departure and destination, e.g. set off in Madrid, sunny & clear; arrive in London, grey & raining; (now that WOULD be realistic - speaking as a Londoner!). Even setting the dynamic weather slider in FS to maximum rate (which usually means that the torrential rain you've carefully set up has stopped by the time the engines have spooled up!) won't change the kind of weather I encounter. I have Flight Environment installed (10/10) and it would be great to make even better use of its capabilities in this way...Otherwise, if there's nothing actually programmable like this, something that would at least change the weather randomly, so that if you set thunderstorm in one place, it might be clear and sunny somewhere else. (Of course it'd have to avoid snow in Delhi, or whatever!).It would also be good to have a little cockpit gauge to select the outside weather temperature, without having to plough through the FS weather pages to set it each time. Anything out there???Not hopeful, but who knows?? ...Martin Martin Stebbing, EGLF (UK)
May 30, 200620 yr Hi,With the Wx Configurator in ASv6 you can do this with a few clicks!Hope this helps,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development TeamActive Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter
May 30, 200620 yr Author Jim, you mean I can set specific weather options for departure and arrival? Like sunny in Jamaica and snowing in New York when I get there?I don't really want to use Active Sky's clouds and so on, as I really am very, very happy with Flight Environment and in any case don't want too many variables, but if the weather itself is programmable in this way in Active Sky and I can turn off (or whatever) functions I wouldn't want, I'd certainly consider buying it.(Any OAT selection button there too? :-) )M. May 31, 200620 yr Author Have downloaded the user manual. Impressive - it looks as if AS6 will do just what I wanted! Seriously interested...One more question though Jim! My FS9 PC does not have an internet connection (avoids having to fill it with AV stuff etc., amongst other things). However, my main, non FS, PC does connect to the internet. I don't have (or want) a shared internet connection, but I do have a firewire network between the two, so downloaded data can be transferred. What are the implications of this re. AS6 - i.e. would I miss out on a lot of features or could I transfer downloaded data to my FS PC via the firewire network? Some companies for example, like Flight1, which require an internet option for their software to be installed, have a 'network Connections' option at setup so that they see through to my FS PC via the firewire ... Thanks,Martin Martin Stebbing, EGLF (UK)
May 31, 200620 yr Hi,1. Sorry, no demo, but as you saw, the manual does a good job.2. No OAT. That is based on real aloft data.3. Can run with FE just fine. By default ASG is disabled so nothing will be over-written.4. Yes, your set-up will work. You would install on both machines, download the data onto the Internet machine, and then transfer one data file into your FS machine and use ASv6 in Offline Mode or modify the weather as you want. Because they are networked the file transfer will be easy. OOORRRRR: If you purchase WideFS and a registered copy of FSUIPC you can run ASv6 on the Internet machine and supply FS04 with live, up to date weather!Any more questions? Not a problem!! Please post in our fourm a little down the page. We like to try to keep the General Fourm clear!!Hope this helps,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development TeamActive Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter
May 31, 200620 yr Author "..purchase WideFS and a registered copy of FSUIPC"...Getting a bit expensive, by the time I buy Active Sky!, but I do have an installation of FS9 on my internet PC which I use for testing stuff out, so as you say, I could install AS6 there too and do it that way. Thanks - I'll probably download AS6 a bit later today then,M. May 31, 200620 yr Hello Jim,"3. Can run with FE just fine. May 31, 200620 yr Hi,No, not automatically. As a long time user you would need to double check and make sure that Auto Submit is disabled in ASv6. This is the default setting for a new user!Hope this helps,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development TeamActive Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter
May 31, 200620 yr Martin,I think what you are asking can be done with FS9's default weather. You basically want to take off with one weather condition at a certain airport and land at a different airport in a different weather condition.Go to the weather page in FS9.select user defined weather.click on "customize weather".The next page has a map. At the top of the page there are three circles you can click on. 1. All weather stations 2.Stations you have not set. 3. Specific weather stations.Below those selections you have a map of the region where your aircraft is currently located. To the right of the map you have 4 general weather conditions you can set OR if you prefer you can go to the next page to be more specific.Let's say you are happy with your take-off weather and want to change the weather at London to be grey and rainy. Remember you can change the map coverage area by clicking the plus or minus signs at the top to expand or contract that area. Also you can move the map along your route by placing the cursor arrow at the edge of the map and left clicking. You want to be able to see the area of your destination to change that weather.Click on the circle "Specific Weather Station".Drop your cursor down to the map. You will see the arrow change to a different kind of arrow with a very small box symbol next to it.Left click and hold down the cursor arrow symbol. As you do so you can move the arrow around and draw a square any size you like. This square defines the area where you can change the weather conditions that you can set to the left of the map. With FS9's weather I can take-off in sunny weather and land IFR at the destination once you understand how FS9's weather works.I hope I made myself clear enough.
May 31, 200620 yr Author That's very helpful, thanks! Only problem is, I just bought Active Sky for Martin Stebbing, EGLF (UK)
May 31, 200620 yr Martin,I read your thread here...and I might re-iterate what Mr. Skorna said:What you can do, in your setup, would be to download the weather on your internet pc. In ASv6, press the "Save wx" button. This will save the weather data to a file. Transfer this file to your fs computer...then load the weather into ASv6 on your fs computer...and you're set.You don't HAVE to have an internet connection. And furthermore, if you select dynamic TAF processing, you can even get some dynamic change, rather than a simple snapshot.Rhett Rhett 7800X3D ♣ 96 GB G.Skill Flare ♣ Gigabyte 4090 ♣ Crucial P5 Plus 2TB
May 31, 200620 yr Author Thanks Rhett - I think that is pretty much what I have ended up doing. Still in early days of AS, but I did get the waether loading up as I'd programmed it. Then I suddenly got a 'blue screen of death' - something about USB drivers. Nothing to do with AS no doubt. I think my Nostromo N52 has got some buggy drivers (this happens about once a month) but I can't fly FS9 without it these days so have to put up with the occasional XP crash.M. June 1, 200620 yr Commercial Member Hi Martin -Weather Maker Pro 4 allows you to create your own weather with fronts and weather features and it then moves the weather dynamically in the FS9 world. It gives a user a more powerful tools to create or generate the weather they want with easy without having to change metar reports by hand or setting a bunch of settings. Also, it is specificially optimized for Flight Environment 2004. Peter has had a lot of input on creating cloud structures that are very realistic and takes advantage of the great work he has done.So just wanted to suggest an alternative. You can check it out at: http://www.weather-maker.comHere is a link to some of the more recent screenshots of a newer version about to be released:http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...sg_id=509&page= Reed StoughManaging PartnerREX SIMULATIONS website: www.rexsimulations.comsupport: www.rexaxis.com
June 1, 200620 yr As one of the first time users of ActiveSky I can say that I don't fly without ASV6 and FE and FSUIPC lolIt created a great weather enviroment never seen before :-)Just stunning stuff...Further great improvement over the default FS9 weather ;-)It can do with ease all your questions asked hehehe....Have fun :-) Andr André
