Looking for a corporate jet in P3Dv4. Suggestions.

I am looking to add a corporate jet to my fleet but a recent search of the forum revealed that most responses were not recent.  Hoping something has changed.  I searched the Carenado support forums and even their info was months old. 

It does not have to be PMDG quality...since there are none, but I would like the systems to allow me to fly shorter scenic routes.  My experience with Carenado Hawker has not been good but I am hoping for a better outcome with time, improvements and native to P3Dv4.  I don't want to spend hours adding functionality to a brand new plane.  

I know this is a subjective request but hoping to hear some positives that would point in the direction of a nice flyable fun jet.

I've been having a lot of fun with the Xtreme Prototpes Lear 25D lately. It is modeled after the 1960's version Lear jet so it does not have an FMC, which is fine with me. I like authentic classic aircraft. You have to fly this plane and stay ahead of it. You can add a GTN750 if you want more automation. It has a nice exterior model and 100% 3D cockpit. Flight model seems very good also, but then I have not flown a Lear in real life. Frame rates are good also.

I also have the Flysimware Lear 35 but I have not had time to install it yet. It has very good reviews on the Avsim forums.

Those are the only two that I know of, besides Carenado, which have P3Dv4 installers.

I’m not boasting but believe I have all the main Contenders. If Eaglesoft brought something out modern (which they will do shortly) I would recommend that in an instant.

But for now, there is no doubt in my mind that the Xttreme Prototype’s LJ 25 is the best – by far.

Read the free 200 page manual and you’ll get the flavour!

Thanks to you and Ted for the replies.  I have been researching the LJ 25 and the Carenado 300.  How does the LJ hand fly?  I like the newer Carenado but the simplistic LJ looks like it may be the way for me to go.  I mostly fly tubeliners but the developers are putting out some nice mid-size airports that a corporate plane would be nice.  Does the LJ have a nice "feel" to it while hand flying?

Another vote for the XP Lear here, great model. As for Carenado the best is probably the C550 since it can take the GTN, probably nicer to hand fly than the Lear, that is a bit more of a handful, although that's probably accurate - much more powerful engines and much less lift. So depends on what you are looking for. 

The PL21 equiped aircraft I find fairly poor without nodding (ie adding the GTN), and forget using FLC because it is beyond useless.

Hoping that the XLS+ will arrive soon from Eaglesoft and fill the void. It has been suggested on FB that the Gen4 version may be not that far after Gen3.....

Thanks for your response.  I have been reading reviews and watching tutorials on the LJ and the Phenom 300.  Good points for both.  I used the Hawker in FSX and there were all sorts of quirks.  I installed the most recent Hawker into P3Dv4.1.  Couldn't get the Navigraph to load even after researching and trying fixes.  So I am very hesitant to purchase another Carenado.  I really like their models but I don't want to spend hours trying to make it work the way it should.  I was hoping their V4 planes would work right out of the box...and maybe they do.  Decisions...decisions!

I have the Phenom 300, and I don't fly it much. Heavy on FPS and some bugs...

Just curious, do you have the Extreme Prototypes LJ?  If so, your thoughts in comparison to each other. I am getting the impression that the EX LJ is basic, well modeled, solid and void of the Carenado type bugs.

No I don't have the LJ..  If you are running your sim on a 30 hz monitor, the Phenom 300 will be ok. I am running it on a 60 hz monitor, and if my FPS is below 60, the panning in the VC is jerky..

The Carenado S550 works out of the box and is marvelous with the GTN 750.

Yes, I have a 60hz monitor as well.  I can run PMDG, TFDI and Captain Sim with no problems.   Sad to hear that this plane would have a problem.

Well worth bearing in mind that you can get some of the Carenado aircraft from Flight1 - So if you don't find them suitable you can remove and refund without an issue..

As you are comparing the Phenom 300 with the XPLJ25 it makes it a lot easier for me. I fly XP ten times more than the Phenom. 

It handles well. Framerate is Ok. I think you mentioned basic - far from it. 

Support on XP is superb. For support and error fixing on Carenado you have to wait and wait and wait. 

Apart from the manual I mentioned earlier the best thing for me is the super clear sharp virtual cockpit on XP.

Hi Dean, I didn't mean basic as in simple to learn.  I have watched the videos and it will take a little work for sure.  I meant simple in terms of gauges vs the glass cockpit of the Phenom 300. And maybe less bugs to deal with. I would fly it awhile before I decide if I want to purchase the GTN750.   The Phenom is a lot sexier though!  Also, the videos show the XP bobbing a lot during landing as opposed to a smooth descent.  That may have been the pilot or is the plane difficult to control?

The Lear was a little skittish on landings for me when I first got it, but now that I have gotten used to it I make smooth landings and have no problems at all flying it, as long as I keep the speed within limits. I have not found any bugs with it. Keep in mind that the real Lear 25 was more like a Corvette vs. the C550 more being more like a mid level Lexus. The Lear 25 design was taken from a Swiss fighter jet. It is a little hot rod and you have to pay attention to it when you fly it. I think its great.

Loved the comparison Ted.  I would take the Corvette any day.  I think I am up to the challenge.  Thanks for posting.    I think I see a classic Corvette in my future.

I've really liked Eaglesoft Citation 2 and Citation X in the past. Looking forward to when Eaglesoft has something for P3dV4.

Main reason why I'm still on v3. Might upgrade when the XLS is available for v4, but still can't find anything I prefer than the CX...

An update and a couple of questions for LJ 25 jockeys.   I love the plane.  Been flying it a lot.  I continue to get the annunciator flash for "cabin alt" even though I have followed all the procedures which is basically dial in the flight altitude.  Occasionally I get the annoying alert for the same.  Does anyone have an idea what would cause that?

Secondly....how the heck do you take off in this and keep it lined up on the runway.  It seems to be so sensitive that I sometimes look like a DUI going down the runway.  Does locking the steering work on takeoff?   

I haven't purchased the GTN750 but I am getting close to pulling the trigger on that as well.  Suddenly all my small ORBX airports are becoming used again.

There are a couple of switches you need to hit near the cabin alt selector, BLEED AIR must be normal, and the one the other side (can't see what it is in the manual and I'm not at my machine) I set to Auto. Don't think I've ever set cruise altitude and haven't had the alert.

Can't comment too much on it wondering around on takeoff, since I've recently switched to pedals from joystick twist I'm lucky to keep it on the runway! Have found the more power to weight the harder they are to keep straight, Lionheart Lear 24b is much harder.... 

GTN  is well worth it, so much to it, and pretty intuitive....

I have the cabin selector set correctly then.  "more power to weight" sounds interesting.  That may explain why sometimes it is pretty easy and other times more difficult.  I may be putting too much fuel in.  Since I am not paying for it...fill her up!   I have used Saitek yoke and rudder for years.  I will certainly monitor the weight situation and see if that makes a difference.  

I have been flying Direct to location  just get used to the plane.  I am thinking the GTN will be one of my next purchases.  Sure enjoy this plane.  I appreciate you and others that pointed me towards it.

I am in the habit of going the other way and just putting in what I think I can get away with. That said climb performance on this and the 24b is great, so not a problem getting to cruise. Normally I take the 25 up at 4000fpm and the 24b at about 6000fpm - the Cessna's I only go up at 2000fpm and that drops right down as I get higher, so I only load them lightly.

I read most of the manual this evening and learned a few tricks and minor things I had spotted.  I did some experimenting with the weights and trim to stabilize the takeoff steering control.  Nothing really changed.  It just seems that it really wants to pull to the left.
