June 13, 200619 yr I recently purchased this plane. With system modeling turned to real world, you can really damage the engine. However, this not apparent with other addons like the DF Barron 36 which I also own. The CHT and Oil tempurature on the Navajo shot up much quicker than other planes. Is this so in RL? Maybe some real pilots can shed some light on this.
June 13, 200619 yr Yeah if you push the engines too hard they are going to complain. But they likely won't blow in the real world. That type of engine is pretrty tough.Rob
June 13, 200619 yr We do not do this type of damage modeling in DF aircraft because in many real aircraft it is not as "cut and dry simple" as those expect it to be in FS.In essence, most of the time if you exceed some "parameter" the engine does not suddenly... whatever. Our planes / engines are built much better than that! You should have one as good in your car.It might take many instances of exceeding such limits before damage / wear takes place- all depends on the engine, and I have 31 years dealing with piston aircraft engines. This is not the case with every type of engine. Turbines can be more tempermental (a hot start, stc.), turbocharged piton engines also (an over boost), but, otherwise, based on what I have seen in FS, it is not worth doing this stuff, as we can never truly make it realistic.Better to concentrate on other areas of realism.Regards,http://www.dreamfleet2000.com/gfx/images/F...R_FORUM_LOU.jpg
June 13, 200619 yr Author >Better to concentrate on other areas of realism.Amen.Michael J. Michael J.
June 13, 200619 yr I had to turn it off, as every time I had the thing on the ramp the #2 engine was guaranteed to fail before I got anywhere. Cost me too many flights that way.
June 13, 200619 yr We don't have to have an engineering prediction model to add a little "realism" to the experience.:) The fact that the engine might fail if I grossly ignore limits forces me to pay closer attention to the engine parameters. I don't care how specific or accurate is the failure type, just that my lack of routine maintenance and disregard for limits probably contributed. I like the feature.Bob... Bob Prince

Why not tell the truth? There is no damage modeling on DreamFleet aircraft because you just do not put the time and energy into doing it.What a shameless plug. :-spam1Rob
June 13, 200619 yr Ah yes, but FSPax will fail your parts if you don't maintain your aircraft properly. And like I said, my Navajo fails every time if I have the modelling turned on 'before' I even start the blasted engines up. :(
June 13, 200619 yr "Our planes / engines are built much better than that! You should have one as good in your car"Hope you are talking about the real plane. :-)"It might take many instances of exceeding such limits before damage / wear takes place- all depends on the engine, and I have 31 years dealing with piston aircraft engines." The funny thing is, I never had the CHT and OT go up to the red line no matter how hard and how long the engine is pushed on the DF. :-)
June 13, 200619 yr Are you saying you can't even take off? I have to pay special attention to the CHT & OT during take off. At full power and high rpm, it gets to the red line in a few minutes, and once it's there, the engine quits within a minute or two. I like this feature very much; it's kind of training me to be more patient.
June 13, 200619 yr I don't mind this feature provided I can turn it off without lowering the "Realsim setting" that may dumb down other realism which I don't want. Once the engine failed, it kept failing on me, I couldn't even fly it (even after I reset it). FSD sent me some fix (I can't recall what exactly it was), I tried it...and then I gave up. There should be a simpler way to turn on/turn off this feature like a swtich in the cfg file. Moreover, If this was the only add on airplane that one flys then there is a continuity. But in Fsim there are so many addons that you have, its difficult to maintain continuity of 1 airplane like in the real world. When I want to fly this plane after 2 months, I want to be able to start fresh. For some reason the reset just didn't work for me. Maybe its something I am doing or not doing.IMO, it was an exagerated failure. Meaning, If it was this fragile in real life, I would have given up flying. Is that realisticly modelled? But the FSD planes themselves are good. I really liked their Piper Seneca and want to fly it so bad, cause I fly Senecas in real life albeit Seneca I (The non turbo version). So I actually fly that silly Just flight's Seneca II which is so lower quality compared to the FSD Seneca. But atleast I can fly this one.MannyPS: There is a nother program ALERT which can do failures for all your planes. Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
June 13, 200619 yr Hmmm...don't know. I have never had it fail on me. FSPax sounds interesting. Where do you get it?Rob
June 13, 200619 yr You should ask FSD support about it. There is no doubt a way to fix it. Like I said, I have a lot of hours aon a few of their planes and have never had one konk out on me.Rob
June 13, 200619 yr I've been flying the Navajo for a long time now and I always use realistic damage. Honestly, I can't remember ever having a failure yet. I just fly the thing by the numbers (you can't just run full throttle for your climb out, etc). ------------------------- Craig from KBUF
