June 30, 200619 yr A new outfit calling itself "Atlantic Design" is selling scenery add-ons through Simmarket. So far three freeware authors, Jon Murchison, Matthias Lieberecht and Len Hickman, have confirmed that the "author" of these products, one Simon Mathias Nordendal, has incorporated their work into his without asking their permission. For details see the topic "Atlantic Design - Selling Our Product" on Matthias' support forum at http://www.baepanelproject.com/. As far as I can tell from the screen shots, most or all of the objects in this guy's scenery are already available as freeware, either included with EZ-Scenery or available for download here on Avsim.Sidney Schwartz KPDX
June 30, 200619 yr >have you contacted Simmarket about this with evidence? The authors whose work was appropriated have contacted Simmarket and/or Atlantic Design.Sidney Schwartz KPDX
June 30, 200619 yr Author Someone needs to slap the guy (guys) for trying to sell this. I had a look at the images and his website. I get the impression he has no clue what the difference is between right and wrong on this matter and needs to be educated. The images show that the objects are out of scale, based at a default airport and only one scenery and he wants $15, what a joke. Really peeves me off to see someone that looks like he uses EZScenery or RWY12 to place some objects that various designers spent long hours on making and trying to take credit for it....get a rope!!Regards, MichaelKDFWhttp://www.calvirair.com/mcpics/tfbeta.jpg Best, Michael KDFW
July 1, 200619 yr That stuff is awful. There is no clue as to scale. I would be embarrassed to post it as freeware, let alone 'borrow' things and charge for it. My Freeware Sceneries
July 1, 200619 yr If my understanding is correct... the freeware authors who made the scenery being sold don't approve. So, I don't see how you can insult a freeware product which is currently being illegaly sold without the authors' permission. They are dedicating their time to improving their flight sim experience and those who chose to download it.http://www.kthxdone.com/images/kw_ft.jpgKen Weik [link:maam.org|MAAM-SIM][link:library.avsim.net/search.php?CatID=root&SearchTerm=kenneth+weik&Sort=Added&ScanMode=0&Go=Change+View]My AFCADs
July 1, 200619 yr Agreed, this guy is as tall as a bus....http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/151896.jpg Al Stiff
July 1, 200619 yr I think you misunderstood kib (or then I'm a fool for trying to see the best in others :) ) - the way I see it, kib was putting the seller down, not the authors of the freeware who's stuff this guy used to create his merchandise.kib wrote:> That stuff is awful. There is no clue as to scale....referring to the garbage (scenery) the SELLER had put together from other people's freeware components (see the screenshot above). There's nothing wrong with the components themselves, just that the person who compiled them into a scenery (the seller) messed things up (namely the scale).> I would be embarrassed to post it as freeware, > let alone 'borrow' things and charge for it....once again referring to the scenery being sold (the one made by the seller), NOT the components. As in, kib would be embarassed to release a product (even as freeware, let alone as commercial with stolen components) if the scale was so badly off. That's what you meant, right kib? ;)
July 1, 200619 yr Correct...there's nothing wrong with the objects themselves. It's how they're placed that is so bad. The fence and people are about double their scale. The parts are fine, but there is nothing believeable about the scene. It looks like a bunch of stuff thrown together no apparent reason. My Freeware Sceneries
July 1, 200619 yr I think it is very unprofessional and disappointing that SimMarket does not vet the authenticity of what it puts up for sale, particularly if it is from some guy who shows up out of the blue like this. In doing this they have unwittingly made themselves distributors of pirated software.Rob
July 1, 200619 yr I have spent alot of money at Simmarket and they are one of the best. However, buyer beware. They have a great selection but will sell anything. Some of the stuff they sell is horrible. They have some planes and other addons that are prehistoric. At one time I raved about them having owner reviews and you can still be warned about bad products. However, Ive seen reviews deleted and latety Ive have not been able to post any.
July 1, 200619 yr My mistake, just wanted to make sure there was no freeware author bashing here.http://www.kthxdone.com/images/kw_ft.jpgKen Weik [link:maam.org|MAAM-SIM][link:library.avsim.net/search.php?CatID=root&SearchTerm=kenneth+weik&Sort=Added&ScanMode=0&Go=Change+View]My AFCADs

That is just not right and shows what kind of support they have towards the community. I say that with mixed feelings as I do buy a lot from them and I am also a designer that was looking at my resale options. This whole thing leaves a bad taste in my mouth.Regards, MichaelKDFWhttp://www.calvirair.com/mcpics/tfbeta.jpg Best, Michael KDFW

In my book that makes them about the worst. They are more like a combination between a flea market and a distributor of stolen goods (commonly known as a "fence").Rob
