Chaseplane impact on performance

Recommended Posts

Very good product overall.. Apart from the replay not being reliable, the only other major issue I noticed is poor fps.. I'm definitely losing about 8 - 10 fps after starting chase plane.. I have tested this with different aircraft, different airports etc.. Same result.. Why should an external camera system have any impact on Sim performance.. 10 fps drop for a camera system is unacceptable esp in p3d where we are already struggling with an old Sim platform.. Also is it doing anything with shaders?

I stopped using chaseplane because of this and now my flights are so smooth even on landing which is the most demanding situation.

What is your CPU usage?

Have you added ChasePlane as an exception in WIndows Defender? This is known to cause issues where WIndows would scan it continuously with high CPU usage.

thanks for the quick reply..

my CPU usage is around 23% without chaseplane and it goes to 30% with chaseplane ON... chaseplane itself takes only around 2% CPU.. GPU is around 50%.. so neither my CPU nor my GPU are anywhere near their limits, but i still see 5 - 10 FPS drop with chaseplane ON..

My windows defender is not letting me go to the exclude page.. some options are hidden.. trying to figure out what.. i did turn my anti-virus OFF but didnt see any change in FPS..

i think if you have another anti-virus windows defender turns OFF automatically. just read it in windows website..

so if i disable my other antivirus i'm still not seeing FPS go back up..

i did add chaseplane, P3D4 & ASP4 to my "game mode list" in my Avast Antivirus.. so thats kinda like excluding those apps from scanning i think..

EDIT: I restarted P3D & now the FPS delta seems to have gone down a bit.. its about 5 fps down from 10 fps.. so maybe adding that exclusion helped a bit.. anything else you can suggest to make this app really lightweight? some other programs like VLC player, etc have no impact on FPS when i have them ON during simming.. i want chaseplane to be like that.. every drop counts..

Please do this test: Toggle chaseplane ON/OFF and record the FPS before and after.. keep all parameters exactly the same.. you will see a drop with this app..

all my FPS readings are taken at steady state after sim settles down.. so i'm not capturing wild fluctuations..

Sorry Vinod,

I did what you say: I toggle Chaseplane On or Off  and this has strictly nothing noticeable on fps, no change.

Scenery: ORBX Ireland, IEDW airport, Aerosoft A320 Professional, Active sky and ready to take off, some traffic: with or without ChasePlane, I have 28-31 fps for a max set of 60.

Regarding process lasso data, Chaseplane uses almost 0.5 % CPU power. I set Chaseplane affinity on core 0 only, and P3D on cores 1 to 5 (core i7_8700K processor, no HT)

Patrice.

To me, ChasePlane has nothing to do with affecting your FPS. I would recommend to look for something else on your systems if you have any FPS issues.

I don't have an FPS issue per se.. I typically average around 30 fps in vc, but I do notice chaseplane shaves off at least 5 fps..

Let me try the process lasso and report back..

tried with process lasso - yes there is an FPS improvement by assigning cores 1 thru 7 to P3D and chaseplane on core0.. but when i turn OFF chaseplane, the FPS does go up by 10 or so.. now both the values have gone up due to process lasso.. so overall, the sim is faster but the delta is still 10 fps with and w/o chaseplane...  I cannot be the only one facing this issue.. there's gotta be others who must have faced this if they're testing this closely..

p.s - the CPU usage was around 1.5% for Chaseplane..

I don’t currently have reports of this from other users...

What are your computer’s specs?

Similar situation with me, however, when I move (pan) the camera it seems to bring stutters doing this.....
