Need a new twin turbo...King Air or Cheyenne?

Recommended Posts

Guest weeniemcween

The topic is not old but ongoing. In buying fs9 products, people like to be up to date on fsx compatibility. I have tried to show how one, with a little initiative, can easily make the aeroworx king air function almost as well in fsx as fs9. All you have to do is move the plane from the aircraft folder to the simobjectsairplanes folder or add a simobject entry for the aircraft directory in the fsx.cfg file; then do a couple panel edits which I have explained. So simple a caveman could do it (poor guy). Personally I prefer flying the king air in fsx as it gets good frame rate and fsx enhances the flight dynamics, particularly turbulence. At any rate, it is leaps and bounds above the default king air 350, which unfortunately was hardly upgraded. Someone is working with the cheyenne as well. What's the problem?

Assuming developers put it out before FS11 or other. Which is not obvious at this point.

Install was fine into FS9.Copied over necessary directories and files.BUT when loading one of the aircraft beeping starts. Do you get this?WHEN loading the aircraft the scenery progress bar starts moving and then CTD.Doesn't work for me in FSX.Did you do anything special to get it to work?Gauges where excepted by FSX.I am thinking that one or more of the gauges are not kosher.

>All gauges and auto-pilot, etc work????I haven't done extensive testing yet but all of the instruments and avionics appear to work correctly, with one exception: a couple of the toggle buttons in the autopilot panel do not apper to work meaning that autopilot modes cannot be toggled on and off properly. There may be a workaround to this problem but I haven't had time to look into it. Apart from that, there are a few graphics issues (e.g. some of the button textures are missing or are solid black) but these are cosmetic and minor. >In one picture there is a CRT which doesn't look like it'sturned on.>What is it and doesn it work? That's a non-functional place holder graphic which was added by the developer to provide space for users to add their own avionics into the panel. It's meant to look like that.

Cheyenne -So everyone knows, that might buy the FS9 version and use it in FSX, there are problems; which is to be expected. The Trimble will crash out of the sim when clicking in the wrong area. Plus the knobs don't show, but the mouse press areas do work. Certain 2D views will not work. This is mostly FSX.Parking brakes are not strong enough to stop the aircraft from creaping.Does someone know how to increase the effectiveness of the parking brake?

Can anyone make a video showing the King Air also? I'm considering buying that one. However I am thinking about waiting until the FSX version is done so I don't have to pay twice.

Both are great addons. If you have a preference for the real world aircraft, go with it, if not go with the Cheyenne. The Cheyenne has an extra level of polish the King Air doesn't have. It's subtle, but you can see Digital Aviation made that extra over the top effort to make sure everything was done properly. The only issues seen so far are with the GPS, but they have been patched now, and it is a very complex model of the text GPS, whereas the King Air GPS is just a "skin" visual operating on the default GPS system. Some may prefer the default system for ease of use however the Cheyenne GPS will import default flightplans within the sim.Personally I think Digital Aviation is the best developer for FS, they only have a few products, but they all are fantastic. If only we could have the maintenance module from their DO-27 in the Cheyenne! In the end I still use and enjoy both, but I'd say the Cheyenne is just slightly better. That doesn't mean the King Air isn't fantastic, real world King Air pilots have done reviews on it and were blown away by the level of realism. If you can afford it, just get both lol.

Hi,I've just installed the AW B200 in FSX. The first problem I am having is that there is some texture flashing on the panel. It keeps showing and then hiding the 3D panel, and a 2D panel shows underneath. You said you deleted everything but the VC. Did you delete window00, too?The Torque gauges aren't working for me either. Any thoughts on this? (I still need to read the manual. I couldn't figure out how to turn the bleed air on either).Thomas[a href=http://www.flyingscool.com] http://www.flyingscool.com/images/Signature.jpg [/a]I like using VC's :-)N15802 KASH '73 Piper Cherokee Challenger 180

Ok, I figured out the Torque gauges (inverter switch). I still can't figure out the flashing panel in VC.Could it be my low power computer (Dell D810 1.86 GHz Pentium M, ATI X300 64 MB Graphics, 2 GB Memory).Thomas[a href=http://www.flyingscool.com] http://www.flyingscool.com/images/Signature.jpg [/a]I like using VC's :-)N15802 KASH '73 Piper Cherokee Challenger 180
