P3D and perhaps XPlane have become monsters.

The "add-ons" can be monsters, but I would dare suggest not many people fly XP11 or P3D without any add-ons?

Almost finished with the conversion of MSI AB HML data files (CSV files) int XLS (excel) and will post my results.  Single GPU compares were a little lower than I hoped for P3D (haven't done XP11 testing yet, that's next but XP11 doesn't support SLI performance mode so it's somewhat unfair to compare to P3D that does support SLI performance mode).

Cheers, Rob.

Like I said before, I don't think the 2080ti is going to really be about framerates in P3D. More like it will let you turn on all those GPU-dependant settings that were too heavy to use before, while keeping the FPS at about the 30fps that Rob has advocated for a while.

So a £1200 graphics card with eye candy will give us 30fps. Is that really progress? And are those settings so good people will pay £1200 for them? Hmmm.

I want decent performance in UHD and I know there's around a 20% hit over 1920*1080 for that. But turning down a couple of settings could restore the balance. I'll await Rob's report but I don't think I'll be alone in being very disappointed in the performance of such an expensive card. The most expensive there's ever been.

Agreed but it would be very helpful to know what the base fps was with everything turned off. When you compare P3D to DCSW the difference is profound but on the surface the scenery doesn't look too different. I know 3rd party stuff will have an impact which is why I wanted someone to run a base level test.

I wonder what fps would you get with no shadows, no weather, no water, no DL, but with scenery sliders maxed (or so). For example, over NYC. To see at what fps could the cpu push maxed 3d objects only.

You'll be disappointed. Turning on all the building and autogen settings instantly swallows almost every bit of that 500+ FPS, even with no other settings in the sim active. (shrugs) Don't ask me to explain that because I haven't a clue, except that in the end, the CPU dominates when determining ESP-FPS when buildings/autogen are active.

.........I remember when FSX was released, we all struggled to get 20 FPS the New York area, and dreamed of the day we could get 50.......:ph34r:.

I do not believe a 2080 or 2080ti is going to increase your FPS. They may help you from losing FPS with the graphic intensive settings that Rob mentioned. I have a 1080ti and a 4k monitor but have not seen my GPU load over 60%. I do not expect to get an FPS increase until I can can feed more data to the GPU with a better CPU. I am looking forward to Rob's review of his 9900k.

Thanks for taking the time to do that. I could accept 560fps for £1200 outlay.

It seems buildings and autogen have a huge hit. Autogen is buildings isn’t it? What settings didn’t you have for Autogen etc?

Thanks. What if you set all Autogen to Dense. That’s two stops below max. Leave Scenery Complexity alone. I would expect a big jump.

Ray, From my testing, all of the settings in the Scenery Objects box have a significant impact on FPS as does AI traffic.

I need to clarify my previous post. I have an old 3770k overclocked to 4.5 ghz. On this system it is the bottleneck not the GPU so getting a 2080 would not benefit me. Now maybe with a 9900k a 2080ti may be some benefit.

Most test reports I have read so far indicate that a 2080 is very comparable to a 1080ti in performance until software is updated to utiltize the new functions of the 2080 cards.

LOL, how many years did I do stuff like that, struggling to find the magic recipe.......? That's eventually one of the things that kind of chased me away from regular use of the sim. I spent more time tweaking than flying! 🛩️

Ted, agreed your CPU is the bottleneck on your system. I’m planning on an i7 8700K o/c to 5Ghz. I tend to agree the 2080 would be similar to a 1080Ti and at least that card could take advantage of future changes.

@HiFlyer, point taken.  Thanks for your help..

Well, I was already halfway into the experiment, and you may have found the secret sauce. For best FPS in the sim, do your best to turn it back into FSX! 😍

More seriously... You know what this almost looks like, right? Default P3D settings. Full Circle?
