RTX 2080 Ti vs GTX 1080 Ti vs GTX 980 Ti: 1440p

Thanks Devon. Yes that may be the reason things are so very quite. It may also be the reason that in the so called release there was no mention of normal preformance over say the 1080TI. All the numbers were carefully picked so that there was no data to compare it against. Now I know that Nvidia is more intrested in making pretty fire for the kids games and that is how they get into Daddy's wallet and so the days of how we measured performance may be over. Hard to tell. This has been a strange few weeks to say the least.

I suspect something is wrong, possibly on my end. I have absolutely awful CPU and GPU utilization in P3D, never exceeding 50% even in nearly maxed settings, with a locked 30 framerate. 😕

Not to mention blurries, late loading textures......

Bleah.

Hate to hear that. Do you still have the 1080TI just to pop in for a sanity check. If that works then you know to look at the new card.

Nope! Sold and shipped in a day. But I know there's nothing wrong with the card. It works fine in everything else, its just p3dv4 that it doesn't like

I am sure you have a new driver so did you delete and reload shaders in P3d and also try to delete the CFG and let that rebuild.

Yes to the shaders no to the CFG. I'll give that a shot. The interesting thing is that it holds perfectly fine at 30 frames per second with almost everything turned on accept traffic. That's not very horrible, and in fact it's probably fairly good, but according to the graphs there's a lot of horsepower being left on the table. I wish that Rob had received his card so he could take a look at this and either corroborate what I'm seeing or share his alternate findings.

I think that these things have like 3 banks of memory for the RTX ect. I wonder if that shows because it is not using the new features like RTX. I don't know what you are looking at for the graphs but it also could be that windows updates have not caught up or some of the other tools are not updated to deal with these cards.Just brain storming a bit.

Some tests.

I'm going to hazard that a 2080ti is overkill at this point for P3D...... The GPU is essentially on vacation though this is at 1440p. Perhaps 4K would wake it up a bit more. I would say it is very good however, if you want to fly with max eye-candy.....

NY P3D: EVERY P3D option maxed except water/Clouds/traffic which are at default (Gpu wakes up a bit and yawns)

I'm not surprised 2080 is pascal with faster ram as far as P3Dv4 is concerned, any one using an older CPU would be better of with a new motherboard and CPU would be less expensive then a 2080ti and still have change in there pocket, and the latest talk is that Nvidia have a XP in the pipe line next year and based on the price of the 2080ti god knows what that will be priced at.

I’m a bit bemused about the P3D results . 25fps over NY with the processor working at 50% and the GPU not much different. What’s the bottleneck, what’s holding the FPS back??
