August 26, 200619 yr I posted this on the FSD site as well... I scanned the manual trying to figure out why the Seneca horn is sounding during flight. I can't figure out how to correct and shut off the horn via reset. The only info in the manual was related to the gear being extended outside of the normal range. I verified the gear was up and normal operations were performed.Any ideas?Barry
August 26, 200619 yr As I recall you can get a horn also if the engine power is too high. I do not remember if it was RPM or MP - its been awhile since I have flown it.Joe Lorenc Joe Lorenc
August 26, 200619 yr Hey Barry, I am sure there must be something not set properly in the aircraft, but if is that annoying, well, there are two ways if you absolutly want to turn off the sound. I don't have this AC installed at the moment, but here is a couple of suggestions if you don't wish to wait for an answer form the FSD. I don't suggest this, but it is just an option. If you are ok with altering files and such...1). You can remove the file that relates to the horn sound in the sound folder of the Ac in question. However, this could cause a CTD if I'm not mistaken.2). You can open the sound config and see if it's listed in there. (Back it up first) Then remove the line that reflects the horn sound.Keep in mind that some sounds are hard coded to the aircraft and can't be altered this way without the risk of ctd's.Lastly, you can find the sound that's related and open it in windows sound recorder and lower the volume until it is off. Make sure you back this file up first as well. I'm sure FSD will reply, and get you straightened out, but these are the alternatives for you at this time.Personally, I would suggest you wait to talk to FSD or another user that has found a solution before you do anything. Good luck.
August 26, 200619 yr Again, I have not flown the AC in a while, but try either to throttle back or reduce prop RPM. Not sure if that is what your hearing.Joe Lorenc Joe Lorenc
August 27, 200619 yr Yes, either the RPM or MP is out of range. If you scroll through the flight computer it will tell you which.Something along the lines of the "last exceeded" or a similar parameter. It's usually an RPM alarm if I recall correctly.I don't have it currently installed or I would double check for you.
August 27, 200619 yr I searched the POH documentation and there was no mention of a flight computer. Can you be more specific? Is there a panel that you can bring up to reset this horn?Barry
August 27, 200619 yr Hello,It's been a long time but I seem to recall the solution as something like:Load the default Cessna first.Push the throttle all the way closedLoad the Seneca and the horn will stopI'm not sure but I think it was someting to do with the throttle being "unset" correctly at load time.Cheers,Ron Sagel
August 27, 200619 yr Barry,What I think you are hearing is the over limits warning.Check the DDMP guage there is a position on the rotary switch for Excd-(5o/c position) then scroll through the messages using the up-down arrows on the right of the gauge.it will tell you what parameter is being exceeded.Normally I would expect the engine is being pushed too hardNormal Cruise=75% power,30in MAP,2450rpm.I find in the FSD Seneca it is very sensitiveThe horn stops once you are within limits.BestAshley
August 27, 200619 yr Ashley,I loaded the default Cessna first and made sure the throttle was idle prior to loading the Seneca.During the flight, I kept the power at about 75% or less for about 40 minutes and then the horn sounded. Even if I reduced power, the horn would not shut off. ANNOYING!!! There should be a reset button via a lite illuminated switch panel in the A/C like other A/C have to reset your warnings horns. Is this how it is in the real aircraft?Barry
August 27, 200619 yr barry,1. What is the DDMP EXCD showing? It will shoow you what has been exceeded, how many times, and how long into the flight-The RPM setting is critical!2. Are you using the latest version? I think on early versions you got an overvolt sometimes3. I am not RW (just a figment of your imagination) so no idea about the real A/C Best WishesAshley Sear(G4MGD-Licensed since 1981)http://www.jdtllc.com/images/rcv4bannerbeta.jpg
August 27, 200619 yr Ashley,I see the DDMP EXCD that you are talking about.I'll have to look next time. I am going to try one more flight and make sure I keep it under 2450. What I don't understand is why doesn't the horn sound right away when you exceed RPM? But I will check it out this time.Barry
August 27, 200619 yr The system monitors damage over time-the max rpm can be run for a short period without problems, but you the get the warning when it is done for too long.I actually like the Seneca IMHO it doesn't get the good press of the more glamorous Dreamfleet competition-but the framerates are way better,I have adapted my panel to reflect the RW Seneca V reieved in AOPA magazine and my mods also provide a much easier operation as the panel sequences are more logicalBest WishesAshley Sear(G4MGD-Licensed since 1981)http://www.jdtllc.com/images/rcv4bannerbeta.jpg
August 27, 200619 yr This aircraft is a dog performance wise... Compared the Cheyenne LS 400. At least in its standard configuration. I am trying to keep the RPM under 2500, and it really impacts my climb performance. In fact I stalled it climbing at 1000 Feet Per Minute. 64% PUR at 2599, and only about 20 knotts faster than a Cessna 182. I may have to play with the fuel and passenger weight as well. What a dog for a twin of this callaber :(Now I know why alot of people stow it away in their hangars!Barry
