August 11, 200619 yr Could some organized person start a thread for the purpose of documenting the process of importing FS9 aircraft into FSX/FSX Demo?Although the basic process for importing FS9 aircraft is to simply copy their folder from the FS9 Aircraft folder into the FSX SimObjectsairplanes folder, and to copy the contents of the FS9 Gauges folder into FSX Gauges folder, some aircraft require special tweaks like copying the envmap.bmp file.I think that a good format would be to have a top thread containing sub-threads for each aircraft, and to have each of those sub-threads contain a subject line that provides a clear indication of the aircraft being documented. August 11, 200619 yr Thank You.Check out my new aircrafts in FSX! :(http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...id=239671&page=Manny Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
August 12, 200619 yr HOW do you import planes from FS9 into FSX EXACTLY?I tried the Bellanca yesterday with the self-installer exe and pointed it to the FSX Demo folder. I created an AIRCRAFT folder, and sure enough, it found its way there, but the plane does not show up in FSX.What am I doing wrong...I notice there isn't an AIRCRAFT folder in FSX. Where are the planes? Stan
August 12, 200619 yr I copied my favorite Apache from the fs2004 aircraft folder to the simobjects aircraft folder of fsx, and it works pretty well. The sound behaves a bit oddly though.. it's rather loud and in the external views i get the usual heli sound along with a repeating start-up sound..
August 12, 200619 yr What do you do about Effects and Gauges? Do you copy your WHOLE Gauge file into FSX...because it would be pretty hard to be selective of just the right gauges that are needed. What about the Sound File? Stan
August 13, 200619 yr It's all straight forward... if it's an .exe install to the desktop, if it's a .zip just copy it straight out. The following is a translation of FS9 paths to FSX....Flight Simulator X/AircraftFlight Simulator 9/SimObjects/Airplanes(unless it's a heli... i'll let you figure that one out for yourselves)for all the others it's the same place as it was in FS9...Flight Simulator 9/blahFlight Simulator X/blahAircraft using shared textures will experience difficulties (Flight Simulator 9/Textures). You'll need to copy the textures for the particular plane from there to the planes own texture folder (in each one if it has more than one, which it probably will have). Some gauges don't appear to work and some sounds can play up. Other than that from my personal experience, all appears well. Guess we have to wait for the full release.PS: Can't actually remember the FSX Directory, hope it is /Flight Simulator X/ otherwise substiute it for whatever it should be. ckyliu, proud supporter of ViaIntercity.com. i5 12400F, 32GB, RTX4070, more in "About me" on my profile.
August 13, 200619 yr Another option is simply to try and load FS9 aircraft from their existing location by editing the FSX.CFG file:[Main]SimObjectPaths.0=SimObjectsAirplanesSimObjectPaths.1=SimObjectsRotorcraftSimObjectPaths.2=SimObjectsGroundVehiclesSimObjectPaths.3=SimObjectsBoatsSimObjectPaths.4=SimObjectsTrainsSimObjectPaths.5=SimObjectsAnimalsSimObjectPaths.6=SimObjectsMiscSimObjectPaths.7=Path to your old 'Aircraft' folderNot gauranteed (beta) but might work.

August 16, 200619 yr Well, so far it sorta seems to work, but you will get messages about aircraft with identical titles. FSX Demo is a lot more agressive about finding and warning you about mistakes like that. Which I suppose is a good thing, it's helped me fix some errors in my FS9 with multiple aircraft using the same title.Edit:Well, that method works, but in the long run it might be easier to either use the airplanes folder or use a seperate folder (say FSX/Aircraft) for legacy aircraft since to get rid of warning messages you'll have to move some default aircraft from FS9 elsewhere. And it's likely that a lot of planes (at least freeware wise) will need major panel upgrades for FSX since so many older gauges won't work.Addendum: And just because a gauge says FS2002 or FS2000 in it's "version" properties tab, that doesn't mean it isn't FS98 style and thus unsupported."Let me help you out. You're cleared to taxi any way you can to any runway you see."
August 16, 200619 yr FYI, using TDragger's suggestion (and moving the default FS9 747 and Baron to a temp folder) I got my aircraft working in FSX (gauges not in the panel folders of course won't show up, and neither will FS98 gauges) and discovered an interesting side effect: A learjet getting takeoff clearance at TNCM. There are apparently flightplans for non-demo default aircraft in the demo's traffic file, because I haven't done any AI related modifications."Let me help you out. You're cleared to taxi any way you can to any runway you see."
August 16, 200619 yr >There are apparently flightplans for non-demo default aircraft>in the demo's traffic file, because I haven't done any AI>related modifications.Yeah, I created a mini version while we still had a few extra planes in the demo. We had to cut the planes for space reasons but I got lazy and didn't update the traffioc database...
