(As you recall, you had to hack the aircraft.cfg files to enable crash damage, something not yet discovered when the reviews were being written)
August 10, 200619 yr Yeah, it's approved for training if you can afford the $150,000 setup.The sim engine used in a FTD is not nearly as important as some would make it out to be. My flight school uses an extremely outdated AST-100 generic twin engine simulator for twin engine procedure practice, as well as instrument practice. It is approved for logging time for either initial instrument training, as well as recurrent instrument training. Yet it's flight characteristics are laughable, at best. FS9's dynamics are far superior. X-Plane has it's own shortcomings in flight modeling that I won't go into here. However, I do laud Austin Meyer's efforts in getting that approval. It was a great marketing ploy on his part. Edit: This doesn't apply to simulators that are designed and used to give specific training for a certain aircraft. In such a sim, dynamics certainly ARE very important.
August 10, 200619 yr "as real as it gets" and all that old malarkey...I'd like to see the consequence of a heavy landing, it might even help imprint the skill of landing, as opposed to fly at the runway...I think a fireballing plane at the end of a 7 hour virtual flight would be a definate dot in the log books though...

August 10, 200619 yr The complaining at their forums has nothing to do with whats in the game, it has to do with the demo having terrible performance.
August 10, 200619 yr it's not.It's the combination of the software and a lot of very expensive hardware that is.If Microsoft were interested they could get FS2004 certified like that as well.In fact MSFS is used by the US Navy and US Air Force for prescreening pilot applicants...And I believe it's also used by other organisations around the world for the same purpose.

That's not good news. :-hmmm We may have another FS2000 on our hands... One island performs terrible on all but 2+gig Athlons and 3+gig Intel chips. Can you imagine the New York area with add-ons installed...
August 10, 200619 yr Can you please whine some more?They have 2 months to optimize the code more and fix some bugs. I can almost guarantee some of which are causing some of the performance issues.Even if it didn't get a whole lot better this game is a software title in which hardware will grow into.... not the other way around.Minus the bugs I really didn't have much of a performance issue even with my old PC.
