Thinking of a new DX10 card for FSX?

Featured Replies

Anyone thinking about adding a DX10 video card to an existing machine needs to read this: http://www.anandtech.com/tradeshows/showdoc.aspx?i=2770 . There could be many machines that will be difficult to upgrade with the higher-end cards. It will be absolutely necessary to understand the PSU implications beforehand.Doug

Intel 10700K @ 5.1Ghz, Asus Hero Maximus motherboard, Noctua NH-U12A cooler, Corsair Vengeance Pro 32GB 3200 MHz RAM, RTX 2060 Super GPU, Cooler Master HAF 932 Tower, Thermaltake 1000W Toughpower PSU, Windows 10 Professional 64-Bit, 100TB of disk storage. Klaatu barada nickto.

Yeah, I saw that earlier. You know, with that sort of power consumption, we had better see a lot more performance out of the upcoming DX10 videocards with FSX than we do out of the current cards with FS9.RH

Or you could skip the 1st generation of Dx10 and wait for the 2nd which I believe it mentions in that article are supposed to be much(maybe too strong of a word) lower in power consumption.I already plan on skipping the 1st generation of Dx10 cards and waiting on the 2nd. Sure, why everything won't be top notch graphics wise with my HIS Radeon X850XT PE in my system currently. It should still do a very decent job while the whole Vista thing shakes out a bit, and we really get to see what DX10 can do by 2nd gen.Except for Dx10 Vista just seems like XP.5 at this point, so I'm in now rush to upgrade till it comes time for a new computer anyway.

I'd probably wait for the kinks to be worked out first, early adoption can be buggy...

Add to that the current beta of Vista is sucking up battery juice at a fast rate, especially in laptops. Looks like we'll need lots of everything to run smooth, LOL.Regards, MichaelKDFWhttp://www.calvirair.com/mcpics/tfbeta.jpg

Whew! I'm glad I put PC Power& Cooling PSU in my rig...I planned to keep the p/s for at least two builds and I'm now even more glad I did not skimp on the power supply.I too, will not get a first gen DX10 card. I'll tough it out with my 256 meg 7800GT until at least late 07 I guess.Rhett
