FSX Airbus

Featured Replies

How much Boeing/Airbus philosophy will go into the default Airbus i.e. fly-by-wire etc???Thanks

What makes you think we'll even SEE an Airbus, let alone an accurate representation of one included? Microsoft appears to have tied up with Boeing (their house colours have been seen on the 747) as a partner and this makes an Airbus even more unlikely. The A320 has been out since 1988 and if we haven't seen an Airbuses by now we're unlikely to do so anytime soon. The last large jets to appear in FS, the 744 and 773 could both of been Airbuses (A340 and A330 respectively) but they weren't. If MS choose to fill in the 757 sized gap I suspect this will be the 757 rather than the A321. If they choose to stick in a sub 100 seater, neither manufacturer cater for that market and I doubt a 767/A330 sized craft will be seen. It would appear from what we've seen so far MS is concentrating more on propellor aircraft - they could of course be keeping something quiet from us... time shall tell! Our best hope is PMDGs A320 which with any look should model all the fuctionality of both ELACs and the three SECs (Primary, Alternate, Direct and Mechanical Backup), including disabling them (when I want to be a spanner). If PMDG put the effort in we should see a gem of an aircraft and perhaps be able to turn around the perceptions of the FS community on Airbus aircraft (which are predominately based on the bad PSS range).

Thanks for the info Dan (well I never promised to be right). I'm not sure that it's all good news... I'm a realism fanatic (my last flight was an iFDG/PSS A321 merge) and I'm sure that many sacrifices will be made in order to make it accessible to the average user. I'm not saying this is a bad thing overall but its not good news for me personally or the hardcore group (as a man who loves his MCDU and his FCU). Then again, an Airbus is better than no Airbus and it will keep me entertained between getting the PSS panel ported in and the PMDG A320 release.I can't see MS implementing the notched throttles, the systems display (other than maybe the cruise or engine page) or the more advanced side of the autopilot. Perhaps the fly-by-wire normal law will be put in, this would be a nice feature, especially for the average user, helping them to handle the jet (airspeed hold via pitch would be nice too). I'm sure MS will do a nice job, just it won't be up my street. Never the less I am pleased to see some multi-culturalism in-terms of aircraft (most aircraft in FS up until now have been from North America, the oldies and the glider were the exception).Hopefully Airbus will become a partner but I can't see that happening.

The news site have the>information...>Where's that then?I would love this to be true though because, when the original leak of FSX came out, there were those that proclaimed it inaccurate rubbish. One of the things that was scoffed at was their suggestion of the inclusion of an Airbus because MS made no mention of it at the time. I suggested that, as a lot of the article was correct, we should not assume that the Airbus inclusion was wrong until MS said otherwise.

Wouldn't hold my breath then... there seems to be a resistance to "foreign" aircraft in FS until very recentley by MS, the FSX oldies from abroad might of been nice but most of them weren't really practical for regular flying. I mean its not as if though the rest of the world don't make planes, and sometimes class leading or famous ones too, even from a different age. (At this point I would like to scream a string meaningless words, or at least they will be to most people... Britannia, VC10, 1-11, Comet 4, Viscount).

<>True, but that's something we've always done have we not?

Seeing that no plane native to the FS series has had an FMC, and thus I don't expect one with this Airbus, certainly nothing to get excited about that an Airbus will be included. Leave it to third party developers. They'll come up with the goods - particularly PMDG.

The Grumman Goose and DeHavilland Beaver look especially tantalizing. Other new aircraft include DG sailplanes, ultralights, and the Airbus A321. The Boeing 737 has been upgraded to the model 800."I rest my case :(

Dan

Many thanks for that, Dan. So, despite what some said at the time, everything in the PCGamer article in January was correct apart from the release date - which may have just been confusion with the announcement date.

Now I'm just confused :-S I'll just wait until FSX comes out or they post some screenshots of these two newcomers (if indeed they are included). They would make sense as insertions, the 737-400 is outdated and many are leaving service whilst the -800 continues to sell well and represents current airline fleets much better. The A321 would make sense as nothing covers the 180-280 seat area in FS and plus there are currently no Airbuses in FS - it would be good to see a new cockpit philosophy in FS, representing the forefront of aviation technology.I hope to see some screenshots of VCs and 2D panels of any FSX aircraft sometime soon so we know what we're getting in that department. Wonder how many of the aircraft from FS9 will be removed?
