The Harrier is great.....but the Hornet is a more graphically rich and systems wise is getting better than the harrier. I have both and love each for different reasons.

Get them both! 🙂

That's easy for you to say, I've just had to lay out for a new washing machine!

Ron, I've watched all the GR module vid's.

The Hornet seems by all counts King of the hill. But for me being British and all that, the Harrier stands out for me. Just started weapon training today. I love it. When I feel I am deep into it I will buy the F-18 or F-14 or both. The problem is the Hornet is king, but the F-14 with jester looks so much more fun to me. Hopefully, I will get both.

Here are all 3 GR reviews.

Have a look. Hornet has everything/F-14 looks the most fun/Harrier is super cool can land like a heli :) and take off like one. Focus on A/G and I like that also.

Hornet

F-14B

Harrier.

I have to say that Hornets, Vipers, Viggens, Tomcats and the like are not my scene. The Harrier only because it's quirky. I got the F-5E and immediately thought. WHY?

I cannot imagine you would be disappointed, Ron.

Try it.

Just watched the three videos and the only one to tick any boxes was the Harrier. The others did my head in!

This is just to keep this thread alive. I broke out the F-5E-3 the other day (Friday) and have been sucked in. having spent all my time in DCS formation flying, I am determined to learn how to fire off Sidewinders and bombs 'n' stuff. I'm amused by different reviews and tutorials that keep on referring to the F-5E as 'simple'. NO IT AIN'T! For instance, I took it up this evening to lob a few rockets or something, thinking that I'll do one bit at a time. Point, Release weapon...Nuffin. Ah! Fist learn radar acquisition etc. My head, my head.

I WILL work it out...eventually.

To think I want a Harrier.

Ron,

I am loving the harrier, I have done all weapon training now and done the first 2 missions in a campaign.

I just took one step at a time, even landing it the right way is a joy.

Here is all the info you would need to work thought one step at a time.

https://grimreapers.net/tutorials/

The flight model is amazing, the first time you launch a maverick you think "what is going on?" because there heavey your aircraft banks to the opposite side your launched the weapon from and you really have to trim a lot for it. Its all good stuff.

If you get the Harrier, I would suggest you start with start up/taxi/ normal take-off and then normal landing. Landing the harrier is unlike anything else. It's more like landing a Q400. You set the pitch with the witchers hat marker and use power to get the flight path marker. When down to 100ft you increase power to make you VS goto 50-100 VS and let it land. Whatch the video in the link above for normal landing and they (Cap) takes you through it. After all that, Then go from there still your ready for weapons. Weapons are nice to learn and rewarding.

The 3rd mission in the campaign I am doing to need to do lofting bombs, I know how but need to do it a few time before I do the mission. It's also nighttime with NVG.

I'm a great fan of the Grim Reapers tutorials, I've bookmarked nearly all of them. I specially like the way Cap pretends not to fully understand what's going on with stuff. But let's not get too excited by the Harrier just yet. F-5E first. Step by torturous step.

Baltic Dragon has done a bunch of fully voiced over tutorials for the Harrier. I think they are now included in the installation by default. Very well done. EDIT - Yes, they are in the training section.

PS - Purchase any campaign you can done by this guy......they are awesome! The Enemy Within 3.0 (A10C) has kept me busy for hours and its like you are in a real squadron. Awesome stuff.

This is starting to sound pathetic. Deep joy! I managed to fire off 2 missiles and drop 4 bombs. Yay! Sadly, I have NO idea what kind of munitions they were. It's a whole new 180 page manual for the descriptions of these things! Sheesh!

Sadly the F-5E does not have a display showing all munitions and a simple click to select like the Harrier Ron. It's very old school. Learner. IMO it looks harder than the harrier to learn.

But Happy all the same for you, you got some weapons off that's always a step in the right direction.😃
