REX SkyForce, HiFi Active Sky and REX Environment Force Question

Dear Reed,

I generally don't make deep negative comments but I realy do think you guys should try to get your things together!

Since the release of SF3D and EF, there are constant changes in information and functionality you guys provide. Here some examples (sorry for hijaking this thread):

1. Starting order of your addons: Over at REX forums there were some stating "No order is requiered", others stated "You must apply a starting order" -> Eventualy the final statement was "Starting order requiered".

2. "EF3D works with all 3rd party weather engines" vs "...you will not get the full benefit" -> well what doesen't work???

In this matter there were several reports related to flat clouds. You guys at REX stated: "This is due to the 3rd party weather engine"! Well if it's due to THAT weather engine (we all know what THAT is), how would SF3D be "compatible with all 3rd party WE"???

3. Again "EF3D works with all 3rd party weather engines" -> Well...users report square looking OVC clouds. Your statement again: "This is due to the 3rd party weather engine"!

Same Q as above applies: How can you then state that SF3D is "compatible with 3rd party WE"? There are several threads at REX forums where the ball is constantly thrown in the direction of the 3rd party WE which "should" be compatible with SF3D.

The bottom line is that before SF3D / EF we have NEVER seen so many square looking OVC nor flat clouds so it seams that your product is NOT totaly compatible with 3rd party WE (NOTE: I have NOT encountered these two issues but apearantly many others have.)

I think I could share 2 or 3 more points where statements were made then revised once just to be revised again.

I feel that the entire REX 5 launch has been a complete drama and this is soooo not REX!

I want those REX launches back that do what they've been advertised to do without the need of patch after patch after patch. I remember installing REX Ess with overdrive...boom up and running...stunning changes without issues (have enjoyed the product from day 1). Or REX WWAHD...boom...again nice changes with minor minor issues but still enjoying those changes today in P3Dv4.

I can't even remeber how many times I installed / unistalled SF3D and EF since purchase. I currently run them but already encountered some issues related to SF3D i suppose (topic opened at your forum btw).

How are you ? Please post on REX forums for any precise answers. Thanks, Federico

Dear Federico @fs1,

I'm fine thank you!

I did open another thread at REX about clouds materialising/dematerialising in front of the ACFT. Unfortunately again a sort of issue with the HiFi Weather Engine...so now we have 3 identified problems:

1. Square OVC

2. Flat clouds

3. Strange visuals while panning in the clouds.

Look at the link below for your reference to   (BTW...latest BETA EF 20190618 seams to work a lot better than previous builds. Slim patterned Cirrus are gone and I feel some improvement in the "pupil effect" also..it's still not reverting the brightness quick enough but it seams better...)

I will take a look at the link. Regarding 1) this is a P3D issue, and most probably a SF or AS4 issue as well. I cannot do a statement on this as is weather engine dependent (whoever injects the stuff is injecting the square pattern)

Regarding what is EF related, I will reply your topics in the forum.

Guys, I finaly gave up discussing in which ammount SF3D is compatible with 3rd party weather engines (e.g. ASP4).

I linked you above a thread I started over at REX and for those not having access to it, here a Quote from REX:

"The Sky Force engine has its issues I am not debating that. I am just trying to facilitate how weather is rendered in Sky Force and it is quite different than how Active Sky is translating downloaded  METAR and TAF reports drawing from the cloud files and building the weather.

I was referring to this issue here in specific on how the Active Sky engine interacts with Sky Force and how the two programs interact with each other. You must realize that just because issues may be similar in rendering I am explaining that Active Sky as a different engine programmed differently and sometimes interpolates the Sky Force models simply due to the two programs algorithms, sometimes even drawing from the default library. Sky Force just replacing the cloud Sets you have selected in the theme or is being synced if selected and if Active Sky has called for cloud type that Active Sky engine has programmed to inset can not be found in the Sky Force swapped cloud sets the closest facsimile will be used and sometimes it is even the wrong type and that is when the render issues happen.

REX Sky Force clouds were built for the Sky Force Engine and although both Active Sky and Sky Force are are compatible with P3d and FSX they are two different and unique programs although similar in nature and do sometime have issues sometimes causing erroneous effects."

I now spent far to much of my time trying to reason with this addon (configuring / installing / uninstalling / reaching up to the DEV / writing on forums...), please decide yourselves if the above quote gives you a clue towards theyr advertised compatibility (I talk here about compatibility between SkyForce3D and ASP4).

If you guys out there are happy, then all I wish you is "Always 3 greens".

To REX: I thank "Federico" @fs1 for his very active support for EnvForce! EF, while having some bugs on launch, matured a lot.

SF3D makes a complete mess out of my clouds (on my end) and I hope it will kick a s s after the implemetation of Weather Force.

Best regards,

GErald

Sadly that's your end.

Today's flight after a complete new install of P3D 4.5.1.
