August 31, 20196 yr Doubtful. Your Wraith Prism is the same cooler as the Wraith Max but with lighting added. Here is a test comparing the Max with the Hyper 212: https://www.relaxedtech.com/reviews/amd/wraith-max-and-wraith-spire-cooler/1 Look to Noctua... https://noctua.at/en/products/cpu-cooler-retail HTH, Greg

I happen to have a Ryzen 1700 that I've overclocked to 4.1 Ghz where it was plain obvious a relacement CPU cooler was going to be needed to manage the heat output, being as the default Wraith, while perfectly adequate for the stock clock ranges, was completely unable to handle the heat output occuring with the overclock. After uming and arhing doing a bit of research I settled on the Noctua NH-D15, which is huge but has been perfect for myself. https://www.scorptec.com.au/product/Cooling/CPU-Coolers-AIR/54914-NH-D15 It's super quiet, and cools so well the highest I've seen the 1700 temp reach is 61 degrees C under a huge video conversion load test maxing all cores and threads. Did have to measure to make sure it was going to fit in the box though. Cheers Ryzen 5800X clocked to 4.7 Ghz (SMT off), 32 GB ram, Samsung 1 x 1 TB NVMe 970, 2 x 1 TB SSD 850 Pro raided, Asus Tuf 3080Ti P3D 4.5.14, Orbx Global, Vector and more, lotsa planes too. I'm building a system for somebody shortly, based around the 2700X. The person I'm building for wont be overclocking though, so the answer is easy for me. No point buying an aftermarket cooler without testing the Wraith Prism first. So I will test it and if they need a new cooler get one, if not, I wont.

I was thinking about a third gen CPU, but would have to stick to previous gen motherboard due to the new generations cost, what with PCIe 4 and all. Which means either USB flashback prior to installing CPU, or a cheap, old, AMD processor installed fist in order to update the BIOS.
