P3D settings ?

Featured Replies

Dear all,

I wonder if someone can guide me or even send me a link for the most suitable graphics settings in particular and P3D in general for the quality and performance that, would work with my system's specifications, my general complains are:

  1. There are too many tutorials and posts includes at the one here at AVSIM "P3D tips and tricks" but mostly outdated and from amateurs like myself also contradicting one another or confusing.
  2. Regarding Nvidia inspector, I learned it's not an authorized Nvidia product is it still recommended and which version?
  3. I have a problem with shimmering textures at the scenery and VC, not that bad but a little annoying to me.
  4. Also implementing certain setting, I could have nice graphics but with a lower frame rate down to 15 or 17 and acceptable to medium stuttering impact?

So, any help will be highly appreciated, my settings at the signature part I hope.

Best regards

Alaa

Has anyone ever tried this guide?

I’m quite curious however not sure I’d want to spend money on stuff I may already know or that’s available online somewhere perhaps.

Frankly, I think it's bold to charge for this. There are plenty of good guides around for free (especially Rob Ainscough's guide here on avsim) that give you enough information to decide on settings. Especially considering there's no ultimate settings level to satisfy everyone.

That’s what I was kinda thinking, seems odd as I get the feeling that most of what would be in that guide can he found online..but one never knows..

ive never seem the guide from Rob...I’ll go look it up know, thanks.

Thank you I will give Rob's guide a try, the developer of the RD_Presets guide perhaps is focusing on their product in which I am not using or planning to use, I am trying not to repeat FSX mistakes by installing many add ons, so I will check Rob's guide and see first,

The problem with settings theirs no one size fits all, two PC`s the same with different users will have different results one may have more none flight software installed than the other, and different addons installed.

You're very right Raymond, however, I thought there could be a medium level settings that could work with an average system and not contradicting with one another I will give an example, I was following a Youtube channel with a guy that gave a clear suggestion that Vsync to be off and no triple buffering with certain NI settings but this was causing my VC screen to like refresh every few seconds to a minute and not with all add 0n aircrafts I have, it was annoying.....Then I had the guts to turn on both Vsync and triple buffering and no refreshing anymore. So settings are different with every system and add-on, change over time, oh and with P3D updates & hotfixes......Not good

I tend to use a test flight one with a very high demand on my PC, in my case Gatwick to Heathrow in ORBX England region with UK2000 airports London city included, start 08 Gatwick PMDG 747 fly to Detling VOR left approach Heathrow Ils 27L staying below 5000ft, only apply one tweak then test fly twice best avg cache, this may be long winded but once stable you can fly anywhere.

Well, for me I'm a virtual airline pilot, means, I fly as per schedule and testing too much is kind of frustrating process for me, my favorite flight will be from Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson airport to Miami or Memphis or Laguardia, I have Imaginesim KATL with ORBX Base, Vector and Open LC NA I get about 18-22 FPS but with the Shimmering effect and stuttering! Not that strong but it's there and annoying. I wish I can get rid off, however, your system is much powerful I might need to upgrade mine sooner or later

I know it can be frustrating but when I upgrade each time I delete the config and shaders then run it at default first then start to apply my tweaks, this is because you may find you don't need all the tweaks you had before.

Alaa - as I'm sure you have heard many times - each system is different!  All the guides can do is get you in a ballpark IF your system is similar to theirs. What you can learn from these guides is how each setting affects visuals and performance.

There is no shortcut to fine tuning your system yourself and it takes time. After you are in the "ballpark" change just one setting and fly for a few days - don't just take one flight. Repeat as necessary until you get to the sweet spot on YOUR system. Aim for smoothness not just high frame rates. I like to tune my system(s) for the smoothest operation at the lowest framerate.
