Counter-hyperbole suggestion

Recommended Posts

I have enjoyed reading about others' excitement for the new sim about as much as I've enjoyed reveling in my own excitement. However, I have become increasingly annoyed by what I feel are disingenuous comments which run along the lines of "no buy if...". May I suggest that the lawyers among this forum's fine participants cobble together a piece of legislation which would make such statements contractual obligations, such that any person who utters them is indeed forbidden from purchasing the new sim once it is released if it does not contain the feature whose absence they complained about. This would add a dark pleasure dimension to my enjoyment of these forums, which, until now, has been largely of the light pleasure variety.

I suspect that a lot of no-buy comments are tongue in cheek and not only mine 😇

Many of them certainly are! But there have been plenty which are dead serious, and which I do not believe will be followed through with by the people saying them.

There are tons of posts of what people want in the default sim. Many of them are things that have been provided by third party addons in the past. At this rate MSFS2020 will cost $500 out of the box. If this sim doesn't live up to the hype peole will be launching themselves off the top of tall buildings.

Oh I have a couple of names I'll be checking up on if the game launches without VR lol. I've told them I think they're full of it so it'll be funny to see them posting impressions after launch day.

I definitely share your feelings, Stratosfeerick.

In order for such a promise to be legally enforceable -- that "I won't buy MS2020 unless ..." -- there would need to be legal "consideration" paid to the person making the promise. For example, if a person merely says, "I'm not buying MS2020 without animated stewardesses," there is nothing legally enforceable about that promise unless that person has voluntarily accepted something of value in exchange for his promise. That is called "legal consideration." Generally speaking, it's not against the law simply to lie. But if I've given someone a $20 bill in exchange for his agreement never to buy MS2020, then his buying the new sim would violate the agreement, and a court could theoretically order him to repay my $20, plus legal costs.

Conversely, if I state that I'm definitely buying MS2020 (as I have), no one can legally force me to do so if I fail to make the purchase. Again, it's not against the law to lie in a forum (as some of you "third-party developers" demonstrate). But if I accept a $20 bill in exchange for my promise to purchase MS2020 -- and then I fail to do so -- a court could either (1) force me to return the $20 plus legal costs, or (2) order "specific performance" of the agreement, whereby the court orders me to purchase MS2020 whether I want to or not. However, there can't be any criminal penalties enforced -- which is good, because I hear that people demanding VR are often targets of gang violence in prison (quite understandably). This is all a "moot case" of course because everyone reading this message will be buying MS2020 within moments of its release, including me of course.

My grandfather once told me a story about his announcing to his Sunday School class that he would never buy a TV set. Guess what? He bought a TV set.

Yea. And how about a law immediately requiring erasure and lock down of all Sims belonging to those who claim all other sims are dead and vowing to sim no more until release of this amazing new super duper real as life Microsoft wizardry.

No need for a law for me, I gladly stoped using any current sim since the E3 🙂

I will not buy the new Microsoft Flight Simulator unless Microsoft makes it unavailable for purchase. I will not continue playing any older sims unless someone can successfully delete them all from my PC.
