December 11, 20196 yr For many years I haven't played flight simulator but recently I've regained interest. I've enjoyed MSFS since version 1.0 and I haven't missed obtaining a copy since. But for all those hours spent, I can never recall an OOM error.........until today. I have no add-ons other than FSUIP4 Probably because today is the first time I've ever played it with a "capable" GPU. Yesterday my GPU was a Nvidia 9800GTX.. Last week it was a 7900GT, and before that, a Quadro 2000. But today (earlier) I installed a PNY 1060 GTX 6GB GPU. And not long into my first flight BOOM! OOM error. I finally know what you guys are all talking about haha My system is as follows Windows 10 Pro BaseBoard Product AB350M Pro4 Processor AMD A10-9700 RADEON R7, 10 COMPUTE CORES 4C+6G, 3094 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 4 Logical Processor(s) Installed Physical Memory (RAM) 16.0 GB So, if I want to avoid OOM's, I guess all I need to do is drop back on GPU power? (or turn down the settings) 😀 QUESTION 1..... Just to be sure....(since I only installed this card today).....OOM errors are not an indication of a possibly bad GPU card.....correct? QUESTION 2.... Right now, I see FSX has about 252658 (Seattle, Lear45) Free space VAS. Using FSUIPC4 logging 024C / U32 to display VAS remaining. Is that a reasonable number or should I havw more free VAS than that? QUESTION 3.... It seems most people have closer to 1 GB of free VAS, even running Add-Ons. I have no add-ons (other than FSUIP4) and even with ALL sliders fully to the left (lowest) I barely have 400000 VAS. Is there a problem with my GPU or computer? Like you, I didn’t think OOM errors were related to the GPU but I am open to correction on this by someone more knowledgeable! I now have a somewhat more powerful GPU than you (a GTX 1650) but until recently I just had fairly puny GTX 670. However the amount of VAS remaining on my system when starting my default flight (as measured by FSUIPC) has been similar with both GPUs. I assume you have configured your new GPU for FSX using Nvidia Inspector? With regard to the amount of VAS remaining on your system (0.25GB) in Seattle using the Lear 45, you really should be seeing almost 10 times that amount (around 2-2.5GB) when using no addons! With just 0.25GB remaining you are on the cusp of hearing the OOM alarm warning so not surprising you had an OOM shortly into your flight! If you haven’t already done it, I would suggest going step by step through the very useful Avsim FSX Configuration guide just to ensure that everything on your system is still configured optimally. December 11, 20196 yr Author Thanks. I'll try downloading it to my cellphone instead. Must be blocked from my PC by firewall or something. December 11, 20196 yr Author Ok, got that...thanks Charliearon. Next step...I have FSX Deluxe Edition....so on Win10 64 bit, it seems I need the UIAutomationcore.dll but I also can't seem to download it from any of the suggested sources, even with my cellphone. Any idea where it can be obtained? Thanks again! December 11, 20196 yr Administrators That .DLL is a good thing to have in your Main FSX Folder. It's main purpose is to help prevent CTDs when changing your views while flying. Don't know if it will do much to prevent OOM. Charlie AronAVSIM Board of Directors-ADMIN/Moderator-RegistrarJust going to run a Chromebook and not upgrade to a Windows computer. December 11, 20196 yr Author Thanks. CTD's (Crash To Desktop) are very rare in my experience. I can't recall ever having one. Probably because of the fact that I don't have add-ons ? I agree CTDs are quite rare and most of the ones I have ever experienced have been due to conflicts usually between add-on sceneries, so you probably shouldn’t encounter them. Please let us know how you get on as I am curious to know what has caused your massive VAS consumption! Bill

I've applied most of the suggestions in the AVSIM Configuration Guide and I'm up to about 700,000KB free VAS....but still surprisingly short. It seems to make VERY little difference if I move ALL the sliders to the Left (lowest settings). Strange. Yes, very strange! You should be seeing closer to 2,500,000KB free. Could you confirm you’ve used Nvidia Inspector to set up your GPU? Bill

Personally, I would add .backup to fsx.cfg, dll.xml, exe.xml to protect the originals and force FSX to rebuild the files. If you are using nVidia Inspector back up the profile and delete it so, the GPU is running clean. Also, uncheck any add-on scenery including the Scenery\Addon Scenery entry. I would then download Process Editor to monitor FSX memory usage, since you will lose FSUIPC doing the previous. It's not a direct translation to VAS, but close enough for testing. The point is to take FSX back to as close to default install as you can. Not doing that hinders the troubleshooting process. Run FSX using the default Cessna 172 from Nuggs, which the first airport on the list and see what the Private Bytes for FSX reads in Process Explorer. The above should help in determining if it's a FSX or equipment problem. Edited December 12, 20196 yr by airernie

Bill Hello Bill. Yes, I made the suggested changes and made sure to apply them. The simulation seems to have lost some sharpness but otherwise runs smooth. I have not noticed any increase in free VAS Edited December 12, 20196 yr by KFXE Current System - Ryzen 7 2700X, ASUS ROG Strix X470-F Gaming, 16GB GSkill X-Flare DDR4 3200 RAM, Nvidia 1060 GTX 6GB, Crucial MX500 SSD Instrument Rated Private Pilot with Commercial CR Sign Off in Log Book. However, I want to ask this again since it seems unclear to me.......and that is..... Is there any way that the GPU or Graphics Card could cause this issue? The reason I ask is that this is a new (to me, but not new physically) 1060 GTX 6GB video card and since the return window will close soon, I want to rule that out completely asap.
