I will upgrade this year but not for MSFS, I like to get at least 2 years between upgrades and if what I have now will not run MSFS they have a big problem and could fail, most users have an average PC.

Exactly, and average PC. and from loose lipped Alpha testers claiming MSFS is running better than p3d, or xplane, minus the unoptimized ultra sliders, and weather having no impact on FPS, whether your clear skies, or overcast, I'll worry about a computer later.

Next week we will find out what`s planed for this year at CES2020 Los Vegas.

I think a major consideration for a CPU that will run MSFS smoothly will be multi-threading.  We already know that the new X-box relies on AMD processors.  AMD processors are not known for being as fast as Intel processors, especially with single thread programs, but AMD has CPU's with more cores than Intel and that means it can handle more threads at one time.  We may see a situation in which a really fast 6-core CPU gets beaten by a slower 12-core CPU.

This is a great point..

I would LOVE it if for some reason MSFS would really benefit from lots of cores

I think this scenario is more likely when the sim moves from DX11 to DX12 IMO.
