I’m really hoping that the next gen XBOX will run MSFS well.

I’d really like to have that as a legitimate option for this usage.

I'm certainly going to look at this as well. I have never owned a 'game box' from anyone....but it would be great to have this as a portable unit...like in the R.V.!!!!

I don't like to say this but I think that`s the only reason Microsoft are bringing Flight Sim back, for the new game platform and hopefully sell more game consoles and subscription game pass, the next ten years will see who rules in the streaming world and can it support all the 5 big competitors, not including steam which may have to reinvent itself if it looses out to the streaming platforms.

This could be, but we all win coming in behind the tide...and 'hit the beach'!

Agree, I hope every X-Box owner pays for a subscription, and gives MS millions and millions of dollars, along with the PC users who will buy it out right or also do a subscription. I mainly mean PC users that enjoy having the option of many games including MSFS in a subscription model to help keep it in development for many, many years! See you at the beach 🙂 Wear your sun screen 🙂

Must buy a new rig, just a New years wish to get some indication as to what will be needed, as i plan to buy in drips and draps

That said, totally understand that the sim will be optimized in the months to come, so it will be foolish for them to say buy this and that, as a lot will/ and can change

Just wishing

Probably very correct and I agree that it’s likely a big driving force.

Honestly, I’m indifferent about what it runs “on”, as long as the XB NG version is “pretty good” to “very good” in comparison to PC options.

There will always PC’s that can be specced up and “destroy everything else”, but I’m simply not ever in the market to be one of those people buying the >$1k GPU’s and the like.

If I can hook in a KB, Mouse and Joystick to a next gen XB and the performance and visuals are good, I will absolutely consider it, especially since brand new console generations usually offer much more hardware value than the price they are asking..

That of course gets ludicrous by the end.  XB1 and PS4 models should honestly be $150 MSRP at this point based upon the hardware inside.  It’s laughable they hold onto the old price points, Apple style, right up to the end.  People are getting hosed who buy those at full retail at this point (IMO)

Originally I was leaning towards waiting until FS2020 releases to build my new PC too, but I’m beginning to wane on that.  From alpha tester reports it sounds like the alpha runs very well on medium to high end systems today.  A decent CPU with many cores and high clock rate plus a 2K series Nvidia card and 32Gb of RAM seems to be the educated opinion “sweet spot”.  After optimizing between now and release FS2020 will likely run even better.

If I build a high end PC now I can tweak and tune it to my liking so it’s all ready to go by release.  Plus I can enjoy playing other games in the meantime which my current old PC troubles with, not to mention flying my last months of P3D on a better machine to boot.

I’m considering building a new PC now instead.  I’ll likely get another new vid card in a couple of years even still, but a decent 2080 sounds like enough so there’d be no rush.  I’m not sure waiting a year to build will have any sizable benefits short of saving a little bit of money, maybe.

Most interesting threat this is...

People telling others that they are not buying a new PC, & others telling that they are.

Who really cares.. Have the forums come to this?? Obviously has..

In general yes, you'd likely be good with any decent spec rig today.  The only thing that makes me pause is similar to your last sentence above.  How many cores though?  We don't yet know if the sim will run better on a high-core machine or something with "just" 4, 6 or 8.  Will MSFS run best on 32 cores at 4 ghz, or will it run best on an 8 core with all cores at 5+ ghz?   I'm betting the latter, but I don't want to guess when it comes to system building.  I want to know.

I think we'll know more along those lines as this thing progresses into beta.  Maybe if we post up about it they will see it and comment on it.

I don’t know - I’d honestly wait.

This may not release literally for another full year yet (end of 2020).

Lots can change and if you don’t have a pressing need for a med-high level system between now and then, it’s always better to let prices fall and the value equation to get better on tech over time.

Had to upgrade my gaming PC for various reasons last month, so went for:

i7 9700k
2080 Super
32GB Ram

I figured if MSFS can't run well on that they have a problem on their hands, so it's a safe enough bet. Plus, this is near the spec of their demo PCs at the Seattle media demo.

If possible, I would have waited for next gen of NVidia cards though.

I think a major consideration for a CPU that will run MSFS smoothly will be multi-threading.  We already know that the new X-box relies on AMD processors.  AMD processors are not known for being as fast as Intel processors, especially with single thread programs, but AMD has CPU's with more cores than Intel and that means it can handle more threads at one time.  We may see a situation in which a really fast 6-core CPU gets beaten by a slower 12-core CPU.

My computer: ABS Gladiator Gaming PC featuring an Intel 10700F CPU, EVGA CLC-240 AIO cooler (dead fans replaced with Noctua fans), Asus Tuf Gaming B460M Plus motherboard, 16GB DDR4-3000 RAM, 1 TB NVMe SSD, EVGA RTX3070 FTW3 video card, dead EVGA 750 watt power supply replaced with Antec 900 watt PSU.

I believe people are answering the question many times over in here with all the might, may, if...

Don't do anything until specs are released, and even then, I won't buy a system until reviews and benchmark results are in.
