December 22, 20196 yr Hi Guys Bit of back story before my question . I have two PCs, one solely for flight sim (I7 4770K Ghz with a GTX 970 purely used for FSX, graphics card more than adequate for the sim). My "Gaming" and recording PC met its maker so have now have a Windows 10 machine running an I5 9600K at 4.8Ghz all cores with a GTX2080. As this machine is a bit more powerful than the old one I was thinking about putting P3D onto this new system and seeing how it performs. I bought both V2 and V3 in the past, the question is do I go with V3 or buy V4 ( am not really into waiting for the next "great sim" I get so much enjoyment out of "ahem, FSX" and I am thinking maybe i could this new graphics card to good use. My FSX runs very smooth at 30FPS using the half V sync option, I know P3D does not have a full screen mode as such and my monitor does not run at 60hz, will I able to get P3D running as smooth? Would really appreciate any input kind regards Daz My youtube channel http://www.youtube.com/c/Dkentflyer
December 22, 20196 yr Sorry if this throws another spanner into the works, but.......I suspect that P3Dv5 is not all that far away. December 22, 20196 yr We'll... money helps the world go around, may as well spend because you cannot take it with you :-) P3D v4.5 (which is here and now) will run well on the newer machine. To get the half 60 Hz vsync (aka for smooth 30 fps) Riva Tuner Statistic Server will do the trick (or a 30Hz capable monitor, or maybe it'll do >60 fps and vsync natively). Here's a link to a vidoe showing RTSS in action, when the frame counter in the bottom RHS locks at 30 it means RTSS is in operation. Also works well with FSX-SE. Cheers Ryzen 5800X clocked to 4.7 Ghz (SMT off), 32 GB ram, Samsung 1 x 1 TB NVMe 970, 2 x 1 TB SSD 850 Pro raided, Asus Tuf 3080Ti P3D 4.5.14, Orbx Global, Vector and more, lotsa planes too. If you want the best, most complete, and even most stable sim, I would go with P3D v4.5. There are so many excellent sceneries, airports, aircraft, and weather add-ons that you will be mesmerized in every flight. Right now, I'm experiencing a new level flight sim with the ORBX TE regions. For me, flying in these regions is breathtaking. The new MSFS better have ATC & seasons coupled with good performance or it will be a few years before I consider upgrading. MSFS
December 22, 20196 yr Author Hi I mainly fly GA and small turboprops. I must admit that while the new MSFS looks good i do wonder how long it will be before add ons come out for it and i do like to fly in seasons. Thanks for the reply Rogen, I watched your video and it sure does look smooth!, 4.5 is looking like a positive option kind regards Daz My youtube channel http://www.youtube.com/c/Dkentflyer
December 22, 20196 yr I switched to P3Dv4 from FSX:SE a couple months ago and have not regretted it. I've since upgraded my hardware, but had an Intel i7 4790k cpu and Nvidia GTX 970 video card and P3Dv4 ran quite well with reasonable settings. December 22, 20196 yr We could still end up with 4.6 before v5 that could still be some way of LM will never tell. Raymond Fry.
