Adding the Reality XP GTN 750

Recommended Posts

Just got the aircraft, and am struggling through the RXP GTN integration..

1. In the XL560 aircraft folder there is a file called RXPGTN750XL560.exe which you should run.

After that, the GTN shows up in the panel.

2. Close down P3D and go back to the XL560 aircraft folder  and edit the  RealityXP.GTN.ini file with Notepad, adding three lines if they are not already there:

[GTN_750_1]
; is the master device if true.
MasterDevice = true
; aviation db: 0: nav_db2_grm, 1: nav_db2, 2: nav_heli_db2_grmn, 3: nav_heli_db2
NavDbType = 1
VoicePref = MALE
; connects to: 'PFC_GTN' or any '#PID' (#D067 for PFC_GTN)
; no value connects to first found, 'OFF' disables connection.
HardwareDevice =
; hardware selector number or -1 to disable.
HardwareIdx = -1
LinkCrs = true
LinkVor = true
UseSimGpsCmds = true

Now, start up the airplane, and advance the GTN 750 to the Test page (hit Continue twice).

3. Verify that the HSI on the PFD correctly shows the CDI needle deflections and the glideslope indicator is active.

If OK, the GTN should be able to drive the autopilot in NAV mode with the PFD in VOR1 mode.

I find that keeping the autopilot popup window visible works best, for now..

But it should be driving the FMS needle, the pink one (assuming GTN set to GPS mode and not vloc).  I can already tune a VOR and NAV will work with that.

edit for clarification:  The RXP GTN does drive the pink FMS needle, course deflection and even shows the glide path during an gps approach to lpv mins.  It's just the autopilot that doesn't work on my end.

For now, the GTN needs to drive the autopilot in NAV (VOR1) mode, not FMS mode.

(Green needle).. this could all be fine tuned over time..

First, lets wait what V1.1. brings... :happy:

I have asked Carenado to clarify how they expect the GTN to be used in this airplane..

In the interim, I've got an updated PFD gauge that at least displays GPS instead of VOR1 if someone would like to try it (request via PM).

I basically would delete the FMS's if the GTN is in there.  However, I think we still need a NAV2 that works.  So you may have to use the TUN page of the FMS to do that.

I'm using Berts ini and the GTN is driving VOR1 green needle  and it's working.

How will the autopilot follow a regular VOR then?  Do we just switch the CDI on the GTN to VLOC?

Or you add a separate radio.. We've done that for other planes..  (Premier?)

Once V1.1. is out, I'll see if I can switch the GTN to steering the autopilot in "FMS" mode..

I also like the pink (or is that Magenta..) HSI needles :cool:

Assuming some fine tuning will be required.. what is the best desired outcome?

NAV button cycling between NAV1 and NAV2, and FMS button selecting GPS mode?

Hi Bert. Yes. I think that's the way to go. Thanks!

Also agree, Bert.  Understand we have to wait for v 1.1, and anxiously awaiting your "magic" !

Well, V1.1. has arrived and you can now command the GTN to steer the autopilot in NAV mode, with an LNAV indication on the PFD.

However, for an LPV landing, APR mode refuses to engage, at least in my tests :huh:

Good to know - Hopefully this is something your mods can address, my friend! 👍
