Hi all, ive got a hold of FSX deluxe 1day before release in UK thanks to a nice friend:) Anyways first my system specs:-AMD AM2 athlon 64 3800X2ATI XT1600XT 256MB radeon1 GIG DDRII667mhz RAM15" widescreen running at 1024x768 (in fsx)I have AA set at 2x, and AF set at high quality 16x in the ATI control panel? does this seem right for fsx? also anistropic selected within FSX.Also what would be the recommended settings for my type of system in the scenery screen of fsx etc....?I am taking off from my home airport of EGNT and it looks AWFUL, blurred, and stutters to ####! locked at 18FPS.....also the virtual cockpits looks silky smooth in some peoples screenshots, wheras in mine it seems poor quality! I have applied all tweaks (fiber tweak and lowered autogen tweak) from this forum, and also replaced cloud and autogen textures with files provided in this forum!Help meeeeee !Ianp.s Ive seen a guy in the screenshots forum flying the maul in the ALPS on a radeon 9800PRO and his screens are stunning so it must be achievable!oh also would setting FSX to use my second CPU core benefit me?

TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULTIRemember this fs9 setting?well ive just noticed FSX had this set at 30, so I cranked it up2 400, and low and behold everything loaded fast in VC, no more stutters, at the expense of blurries!!!! So maybee this and the fibre setting could be tweaked more? Look forward to more suggestions! (especially from the chap who runs the RADEON 9800PRO and gets stunning screens!)IAn

Do yourself a favor ... add another stick of RAM in your machine - 1GB just isn't enough. FSX is a RAM hog .. 800MB+ . I boosted mine to 3GB ... helped tremendously.Regards,Steve

>>I have AA set at 2x, and AF set at high quality 16x in the ATI>control panel? does this seem right for fsx? also anistropic>selected within FSX.>Aren't we supposed to be disabling driver-based AA, and AF, and select AA and AF from *inside* FSX?I really haven't heard definitively either way...yet.I am presently setting AA and AF to "application controlled" within the driver settings, and allowing FSX to do both in Display settings.Someone tell me if this is wrong.I don't think it is, because I'm getting good fps and good visuals now.>Also what would be the recommended settings for my type of>system in the scenery screen of fsx etc....?>First of all, install Matt Fox's autogen file. It helps A LOT, and I don't really notice it being less good looking.Second, try experimenting with TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT. By default it was at 40. I have moved it to 160 so far. You said you moved it to 400, well, I would experiment around...too high of a value might cause some stuttering...it could in FS9.Ok, regarding sliders...I'd run pretty low and gradually move them up...as each person has their own preferences as to fps.On my system, with Matt Fox's autogen file, I can get 25+ fps in rural areas with very dense autogen. That means sometimes I get 40-50 fps.But in cities, it drops a lot...down to as low as 10-15 fps in places like London, or Los Angeles. I could probably turn off car traffic, and do better. I also run full right on some sliders like the scenery density slider. I know, I shouldn't do that. :)I run global texture slider at medium setting, water 1.x high.>I am taking off from my home airport of EGNT and it looks>AWFUL, blurred, and stutters to ####! locked at 18FPS.....also>the virtual cockpits looks silky smooth in some peoples>screenshots, wheras in mine it seems poor quality! >>I have applied all tweaks (fiber tweak and lowered autogen>tweak) from this forum, and also replaced cloud and autogen>textures with files provided in this forum!>You're not tweaked right then. Your 3800+ should be able to give you a decent visual and decent fps except in urban areas, where it will struggle. I am not sure what EGNT is, EG = UK airport. NT = Nottingham?? Anyway if you're in Nottingham airport, that's probably a pretty urban area. So don't expect wonders. But you should be able to get 18 fps WITH clear sharp textures...If I had blurries, I wouldn't mess with the fiber tweak until I got the other tweaks in place. Keep it at 0.33 until later. The "lowered autogen tweak" via the two cfg settings, was for me not as effective as Matt Fox's modified autogen file. If you have not tried his file, I suggest you do so FIRST. And then maybe look at the cfg entries.RhettAMD 3700+, eVGA 7800GT 256, ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2 GB Corsair XMS 3-3-3-8, etc. etc.

Oh yes. Ian, steve has a good suggestion here..I have found FSX using 1.5 to 1.8 gb of ram, depending on where I was located. So 2 gb will help.RhettAMD 3700+, eVGA 7800GT 256, ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2 GB Corsair XMS 3-3-3-8, etc. etc.

Rhett,Just got the retail version last night and I'm having much better luck forcing the AA and AF through the driver - I have AA unchecked and filtering set to trilinear. (AF is an addition to trilinear by definition anyway)I have no idea what levels of AA and AF the FS built-in options are setting - it would be nice to get a clarification on that from the devs.Regardless though, you certainly can't engage the more advanced features of the high end cards like transparency/adaptive AA or angle independent AF from inside the sim, so I'm thinking driver forced has to be the way to go like it was in 2002 and 2004.

I really need to experiment in this area...I have mostly been working on raising fps with the autogen tweaks and so forth and have not yet popped on the AA/AF driver vs. fs question yet.If you are 'instrested', I just uploaded 4 pics (1 screenie, 3 pics of settings) showing 15 fps at EGLL with pretty high settings. It's in Staffan Ahlberg's recent thread, here's the link:http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...57278&mode=fullI am curious to hear what you and others get at similar busy detailed airports with similar settings. I got 15 fps there, but it bangs at the 30 framelock if I go anywhere else outside of a detailed airport.(30-50 fps if I unlimit fps)RhettAMD 3700+, eVGA 7800GT 256, ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2 GB Corsair XMS 3-3-3-8, etc. etc.

My recomended settings would be to put the game, back in it's box and wait till MS has sacked 'ACES' and got someone working for them that can sort out this mess.On the defalt settings are the worst visuals I have ever seen!

According to ACES our processor is at fault because they can't readout its specs. (SiSoft Sandra or other small system tools can perfectly tell me what kind off processor I have but Aces can't)So the low default settings are explained and you are free to put some sliders an notch more to the right. And then you get to the point that FS-X doesn't like AMD X2's and the performance stays rather unimpressive.
