Marketplace in FS2020

What he is saying is that Dovetail would take a 30% cut and then Steam would take an additional 30% on top of that, leaving the developer with 40%.

I told you I was bad at math, but what I was really bad at was understanding what he was saying. I read it wrong, my bad. Forget I even said anything as FSW no longer exist for sale anyway!

Once again, sorry for the confusion by me 🙂 When I see numbers I get dizzy 🙂

My bad n4gix, my apology!

Wasn't there a rumor that this 2020 sim would ship on Steam?  Does this mean that they won't, or just that 3rd Party items won't be on Steam only MS marketplace, or only the market you buy from would get the cut, or something else?  Anyone know, or educated guesses?

Microsoft has been releasing their first party PC titles on Steam, so it's very possible that the new sim will end up there too. Not sure how this would impact add-ons sold through the MSFS Marketplace though.

Flight sim on steam you do not have to buy addons on steam buy from the developer cut steam out I did, FSX PMDG aircraft work on FSX:SE some addon are not on steam for FSX:SE.

No. Six bucks and my right nut says this is where they will sell you liveries and god knows what else. This looks like their microtransaction hub and is the first thing I have seen that worries me.

If they do it right,it could be a good thing. Imagine if all our addons in p3d/fsx were registered in a central hub and update notifications came to us there rather than us having to search 30 different places to find out if all our stuff is up to date. I'd love a centralized marketplace to buy (or register, if bought elsewhere) our addons to maintain currency. Be even nicer if that hub auto-updated stuff, preferably when we're not around, so we don't sometimes have to spend an hour poking around in various places to get the sim where it should be.

At any rate, if they just want to sell me liveries and eye candy, that's fine. Don't need it. I almost never switch to a non-cockpit view, and generally only when I have a new plane and am looking to verify that control surface assignments to my stick work.

I completely agree with you. If, they do it right. I sincerely hope they do.

Since the marketplace is built into the game, I imagine that would only go through Microsoft.

I hope the Marketplace is not the only way to add addons.  What if I create an addon, say a plane, and I want to share it for free?  What if I only want a few people to get it, say only the AVSIM community, or just some friends?  And if I make frequent changes or updates, how long will it take MS to post the changes?

if the MFS marketplace is the only option for buying aircraft, missions and add-ons, as a seller I expect a low fee from them and a fast withdrawal procedure,   as a buyer I expect great aircraft variety, all with 3D cockpits of course, simple download and playable on the go after purchase without having to unzip and locate any files, I also expect original and thematic missions and great add-ons for scenery in different places, the order of items should be based on ratings as default or newest on top.

Freebies by amateur devs shouldn't be part of a marketplace nor the game itself, expect of playing local for testing and take things to a professional level or share the unpublished aircraft with your friends as a work in progress with a typical manual installation.

it is a mistake if assets are able to be purchasable outside the official marketplace without any quality requirements to meet by the publisher, any un-offficial marketplace leads to piracy and the lose of fluidity in terms of "buy & play" without unziping and locating files.

They have indicated they will support third party add-on distribution. What this would look like isn't clear right now though. The statement that you quoted was in response to a discussion about how selling add-ons would work if the sim was sold through Steam.

Are you saying that no one should be able to give or get freeware planes or other addons?

And if I can share with my friends, then what would prevent me from charging them, or others?

well you could do so but nobody except the ones who installed this asset locally will see it online.

May be the same as now Microsoft now own FSX:SE again (I don't think they gave the full rights away) you can buy addons on steam or from the developer direct PMDG 747-400 FSX version works on steam version, so Microsoft and steam get nothing from the sale it all goes to the developer.

PS UK2000 airports detect FSX:SE and install purchased from the developer.

I prefer a centralised marketplace with a fee to maintain quality requirements inspections, SDK feedback, user reviews, assets displayed on rating and novelty and I want to be able to see other users aircraft live in game even if I dont have that specific model.
