April 11, 20206 yr Both my mother and mother-in-law have made masks from cotton material which they've shared with family, friends and neighbors. Though I know they are not going to do much in a really bad situation, I still wear mine when grocery shopping, or out getting some exercise, for the primary reason that it shows solidarity in dealing with the situation we are in, and have the respect to attempt to protect others around me. My niece is a healthcare worker, and her job showed her how to make them. They have some sort of removable inner filter/lining but I'n not sure since I'm using N95's myself. Everyone else in the family is using hers. Edit: Ok, she says they are three layers and washable, with a felt inner lining. I suspect with mandatory mask wearing about to become a norm, quite a lot of people will soon be pumping them out in various qualities until the manufacturers finally get up to speed.
