How many people are using TrackIR?

The movements are exaggerated, Ryan. So a slight flick left of your head, well within range of still seeing the screen, can cause a much larger movement onscreen. It's hard to describe until you've tried it, but it works really well. The comical thing is that now, when I'm watching FS videos, I find myself tilting my head one way or another unconsciously in an attempt to look around. Once you get used to it, it just becomes an extension of your body.

Yes you've got to keep your head very still when landing other wise you're gonna end up in a heap. There's a great profile available on the TrackIR website called FS2004 OPTIMISED FLIGHT. It has really good curves and dead zones. The head movement I experienced has passed now and I'm able the land jets confidently now. Once you get used to it, it's great. Never ever will I fly without one again.

Hi Tim.I bought it last year as a b-day gift to myself. I used it for a week and returned it. There seemed to be training period where you have to do a lot of adjustment with the cap and moving your head. It was too much for me and I didn't have the patience.I returned it and got myself an MP3 player with the refund. I read all the "can't fly without it" posts as it is with this one and thought it was the best thing since butter. It might be but for some, but for me, it just wasn't happening.Ed Lin, D.O.S.:-violin

Short story.I initially, for a year or so, only used TrackIR for very short periods of time during a flight. It was uninstalled and back in the box for quite som time.My eyes were never where TrackIR was ... never in "sync", too much head movement required ... landings were impossible ... always hunting for the F9 and F12 keys. Then it came to me. I wear tri-focal glasses.I found myself moving my head around alot ... constantly refocusing even without TrackIR using MSFS9 in virtual cockpit AND normal viewing of the computer screen when on the internet etc.Solutions.1. Measured the distance from my eye to the monitor screen.2. Got a pair of glasses made ($50) with only one lens (no trifocal)for my normal computer viewing and playing MSFS. Now when I view the screen I only have to move my eyes, not my head, to see the entire screen. No more sore neck and everything is always "in focus".3. Set two buttons on my yoke had grips. One for F9 (pauses IR) and one for F12 (centers IR view) using FSUIPC.4. Got TrackIR back out of the box and downloaded the current software (was for FS9 then but now available for FX also).5. Set the gain and dead zones ... small tweeks here. This was to keep my head movements "in sync" with my eyes. I have a two monitor setup ... so I move my head to check GPS etc on second monitor and other areas of the cockpit.6. Purchased the TrackIR hat ... it has a permanent reflector in front and in back of the hat (in case you want to go 360 degrees).7. Set another two buttons on the yoke. One for switching to VC view and another to reset the view back to 2D cockpit.Happy camper now ... TrackIR is always on.Easy viewing, eyes are always "in sync" with my head movements, very little head movement, no eye strain, and all the major views are a click away on the yoke. For landings ... in the final seconds I want a straight ahead frozen view. I push the button nearest me, on the yoke handle (left thumb), to center the TrackIR display and then I push the button to pause the display view.. during roll out I push the button to unfreeze the display .... ready now to exit the runways at the next high speed turn off.
