October 17, 200619 yr ROFL - that is a perfect description. And I agree about the screen resolution. I fly at 1600 x 1200 at a minimum, so I can't tell you what it would be like to fly with one at 1024 x 768. But I absolutely love it. And make sure to get the TrackIR4. It's range of use far exceeds that of the 3 and makes it much easier and more accurate to use.I'm just starting to implement it in my classes and everyone loves it!You can get $30 off by clicking on the link at the bottom of my page.Thomas[a href=http://www.flyingscool.com] http://www.flyingscool.com/images/Signature.jpg [/a]I like using VC's :-)N15802 KASH '73 Piper Cherokee Challenger 180 Tom Perry
October 17, 200619 yr I also have trackIR but must confess to being a little disappointed. I find it very hard on the eyes mainly due to horizontal tearing in the display as your eyepoint moves - same effect that you get when panning fast with the joystick hat. I have customised the settings to slow down the display acceleration and to have a cental null point and this does help a bit. Now so many simmers rave about this expensive addon that I suspect whether you can adapt to it or not may be an individual thing to do with how the eyes and brain interact, but for me I don't have the immersion others speak about. I'm also finding that I still need to use the 2D cockpit display particularly in the more complex turboprops and jets. There also hardware hassles that any prospective purchaser should be across before purchasing mainly to do with underpowered USB ports - these matters are well covered in the NaturalPoint Forum. The other thing is that the device is quite sensitive to stray light sources that cause it to malfunction - there are times of the day I just can't use the TrackIR because of sunlight coming through a skylight.Bruceb Bruce Bartlett Frodo: "I wish none of this had happened." October 17, 200619 yr I don't really have that much constructive to add, I just want to say that I too cannot see myself fly without TrackIR anymore, it really makes that much of a difference (IMO).
October 17, 200619 yr ... not only will it make FS more immersive, it is utterly fantastic in GTR / GTLegends and LFS! (If you like driving sims too!)
October 17, 200619 yr Hey Vince, sent you a private message on here earlier. Hope you read it (I can't even figure out where you would go on here to read it!)--2002cbr600f4i
October 17, 200619 yr Good points. You do have to pick your spot where you will set up. You can't sit with an unshaded window behind you. When I set mine up in the kitchen, I can always tell when somebody opens the refrigerator behind me :)But, really, I think most of these issues are pretty easily dealt with, as you can tell by the overwhelming majority of users who have replied. I've never had a power problem with any of my computers, though I have read that it is possible. And you are right, I think I have naturally slowed my head turning to keep the motion smooth. If I turn my head really fast, I can get a stutter as FS catches up. I've never noticed any texture tearing. But at this point, I don't even notice the issue. The stutter issue could also have to do with the fact that I have a pretty slow computer. I don't own FSX, so I can't relate how it works there yet.Thomas[a href=http://www.flyingscool.com] http://www.flyingscool.com/images/Signature.jpg [/a]I like using VC's :-)N15802 KASH '73 Piper Cherokee Challenger 180 Tom Perry
October 17, 200619 yr Commercial Member When you refer to display "tearing" what exactly do you mean? Are you seeing white/brown squares in the terrain if you turn your head quickly (Which can be helped by a few fs9.cfg changes) or are you saying that the entire image seems to tear? If that's the case, do you have v-sync turned on in your videocard driver? I can't use a track-ir with v-sync off for more than 20 minutes, the image tearing gives me a headache fast. With it turned on, never a problem, even after hours and hours of continuous use. And yeah, to have the VC gauges match a 2d panel's for clarity, you really need to be running the sim at 1280x1024 minimum. 1600 is much better. Mike Johnson - Lotus Simulations
October 17, 200619 yr I have it - I suppose it is the cost that precludes many from using it....Best,Randy J. Smith Randy J Smith
October 17, 200619 yr How many people are using version 3 and are completely happy with it? I'm looking to get ver3 as it's much cheaper than 4 in the UK (from RC Simulations) as Ebay doesn't seem to have any :((My eDimensional 3D glasses arrive later this week too, so I want to be able to use both in FSX. Has anyone got any happy tales to tell me about using both with FSX?ThanksDavey
October 17, 200619 yr I've been a very happy TrackIR user in FS9 and will continue to be that in FSX as soon as the software gets updated to support FSX. There's already a beta version out that supports FSX so I'm confident a release-quality version will be out "soonish" too (I don't want to use the beta version).
October 17, 200619 yr Yes it is the entire display that tears & Vsync is on and I'm using 1280 x 1024 the only resolution my LCD display accepts. The point about needing the 2d display is not really about display resolution but simply the fact that with some cockpit settings you need to look in two places at once to change a setting e.g. on the FFS SAAB 340 the heading & course select knobs are on the forward centre console but the heading & course readouts are on the main panel. In the real aircraft the pilot simply has to reach down with his right hand (if in the LH seat) and make the adjustment while looking at the main panel - can't do this in the sim of course.Bruceb Bruce Bartlett Frodo: "I wish none of this had happened." October 17, 200619 yr Hi, I bought mine a couple of months ago. This piece of h/w (along with my HOTAS joystick setup) is, by far, the best "investment" I ever made for F/S. I've now reached a point where it is almost impossible for me to land without it.Setup needs to be a little carefully considered, stray light sources as mentioned before can be an issue. Myself, being a father of two, always flightsim at night so there is no problem :-)))I am now using it with FSX. The new camera system alters the way TIR4 operates a little (so some of the things I grew accustomed to in FS9 work differently now - but keep in mind the drivers are still alpha) but, overall, the combination (FSX+TIR4) is awe-inspiring.Worth every single penny (or euro-cent :-))) ) you pay for it.regardsSpiros HazapisAthens, Greece

October 17, 200619 yr I have been thinking of getting a TIR4. I was wondering if anyone gets a stiff neck from using it? I assume you don't move your head very much, then in the vc the movement is much more. Can ya clip the reflectors onto your ears and stick one on your forehead? Then no hat is necessary? Just kidding!I read up on it and it was stated that there is no way to turn it off.Is this true? What happens when ya sneeze? lol
