April 21, 20206 yr Hi I've seen several post that Opus FSI is working in V5. Anyone care to share there experience compare to active sky? I haven't use Opus from since back in fsx days. I do remember it was very well supported in our flight sim community. I am willing to give it a try until active sky is ready which might take a while so I've herd. April 21, 20206 yr Moderator One cannot compare to active sky as they have no V5 version yet. As to V4.5 - the answer is obvious - there's a reason AS is the leading weather engine, simply it's better. However, if you need real weather right now in V5 and Opus works, it's certainly better than nothing. Vic RIG#1 - I9 14900K MSI Pro z790 RTX 5070Ti 40" 4K Monitor 3840x2160

I am really looking into purchasing opus for the time being. The price seem very fair . April 21, 20206 yr Several people have been using the free FSXWX weather injector, which actually works quite well. As a long-time Active Sky user, I wasn’t really aware of it until seeing it mentioned here in the forums. It even does upper winds based on downloaded NOAA Grib data. It won’t load an entire flight plan, but you can specify departure and destination airports. FSXWX does require replacing a couple of default P3D weather system files (after first re-naming the originals so they can be restored later). It is also recommended to reduce the turbulence factor in Prepar3d.cfg from 1.0 to 0.8 I believe it requires FSUIPC to be installed, but I’m not certain about that. Stephan at Opus noticed that the injected surface winds were constantly shifting direction with his beta P3DV5 software, and I saw exactly the same thing in FSXWX. In the FSXWX interface, I set all “DWC” options to zero. In P3D, I unchecked “turbulence and thermals affect aircraft” in the weather settings menu, and set the “rate at which weather changes” slider to zero, and the wind shifts appear to have stopped. However, the wind direction appears to be about 30 to 40 degrees offset from the METAR report consistently. Other than that, wind velocity, clouds, pressure and temperature all appear to be injected correctly. It’s no Active Sky, but better than nothing and is free. If you Google FSXWX, it will take you to the developer’s web site. April 21, 20206 yr OpusFSI works but with limitations...as they tell it, the sim isn't respecting wind direction being set through the interface, and the winds continuously cycle back and forth. I read that together with not seeing even a beta from ActiveSky yet as meaning that the P3Dv5 weather interface is broken badly enough that everyone is now waiting for a hotfix to (hopefully) fix things enough to allow wx injection to work properly. I'm still hanging fire on v5 until that gets fixed. It took a long time to get the wx squared away in P3Dv3-4, and I'm not willing to take a huge step back just to be an early adopter. April 21, 20206 yr With my multi view , multi pc cockpit I used FS Global Real World as my weather engine. It was very good and only a few settings needed and it worked great and little load on the pc’s. It also was the only weather engine that had a Networkbridge so weather and clouds were synchronized over a network of View pc’s. Also FSGRW could be used as a stand-alone weather engine like AS REX and Opus. At this moment I am beta testing a P3Dv5 version and it is working great again. First the main program has been made compatible and with today’s beta weather/clouds are sync’d over the network once again. As FSGRW is less known than the others I thought that I would mention it as it is the one that I use and you can see it in action in all my vids.. From what active sky describe is not an easy task as many members thought in our community. I wouldn't mind if they took their time before releasing. I was always wondering how you got the brightness and dark level in clouds that really looks like the clouds outside my house right now. I really like how the upper part of the cloud is bright and the lower has that dark shadow like look. Very nice to see . Note : the weather is made by FSGRW but the clouds effects are because of my PTA presets ... Unfortunately at this moment there are no plans to upgrade PTA for V5. I will however look into the Shaders to see if certain expressions are the same in V5 as in V4. But that might take several weeks/months as I am now spending my spare time with installing scenery Addons the xml way. I made a fake and almost empty V5 so when an Addon installs the cfg way I can check where files are being put. That I can use to make xml entries. Everything will be installed outside V5 on my pc’s. 5950x3d 5.4-5.7 GHz - Asus ROG 870 Crosshair Apex - GSkill Neo 2x 24 Gb 6000 mhz / cas 26 - MSI RTX 5090 Gaming Trio OC - 1x SSD M2 6000 2TB - 1x SSD M2 2800/1800 1Tb - Corsair 5400 case - Corsair 360 liquid cooling set - 3x 75’ TCL tv. 13600 6 cores @ 5.1 GHz / 8 cores @ 4.0 GHz (hypterthreading on) - Asus ROG Strix Gaming D - GSkill Trident 4x Gb 3200 MHz cas 15 - Asus TUF RTX 4080 16 Gb - 1x SSD M2 2800/1800 2TB - 2x Sata 600 SSD 500 Mb - Corsair D4000 Airflow case - NXT Krajen Z63 AIO liquide cooling - FOV : 200 degrees My flightsim vids : https://www.youtube.com/user/fswidesim/videos?shelf_id=0&sort=dd&view=0
April 21, 20206 yr I don’t expect active sky until at least a week or two after the hotfix drops as there are major issues they would have to work around or have LM fix so I agree with why we haven’t heard much from devs is they all need hot fixes. April 21, 20206 yr The problem I had with FSGRW, (even in fully-functional P3DV4), is that when the “cloudscape“ changes enroute, (due to an updated METAR), it changes instantly with a noticeable flicker. AS used to do that in early incarnations, but in recent years, they have found a way to prevent that from happening. Changes in cloud depictions with AS are normally slow and smooth. From what I gather reading LM’s forums, two main differences in P3DV5’s weather implementation that differ from previous versions is that there can be only one layer producing precipitation, and discrete cloud layers cannot overlap. (The tops of a lower layer cannot be higher that the bases of the next higher layer). It may be that these restrictions only apply when using True Sky and Enhanced Atmospherics, but if they now apply to the default (non True Sky) weather system, it is going to reduce the ability of programs like Actuve Sky to produce complex, multi-layer cloud depictions in the same way they have done in previous versions of P3D.
