I am on my 2nd attempt installing FSX Deluxe here. I also had a message box upon the last step (Registration) about an critical error. I didn't pay much attention, clicked "OK" and the install just rolled back. :(UPDATE: 2nd attempt worked just fine after a reboot. Oof.

This is an issue related to XP SP2 (I think), you can get around it by installing two files from the first disk: one is an msi installer and the other one installs something with 3.1 in the title (sorry, not got the disks to hand at the moment, but look at the files on that first disk and you'll find the ones I mean easily enough. When you have installed the two files, it should then install FSX okay without the error.Note that I recommend uninstalling FSX, binning all the related files and doing a restore to a point before you installed FS before you stick those two files on your PC, just to be sure it will work ok.Have fun.

Hey here's what I see, if I click "ok" it doesnt do anything, the box just stays there....it's not an error messasge (though i had a few of those lol), but its like it won't recognize that disc 2 is in thre drive. I manually opened disc 2 from the windows explorer and could browse it with ease. This is strange.....dang it i wish i had a clue what to dohttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/158837.jpg

Ryan,IF you have enough disk space available, create a new folder and name it FSX INSTALLCopy ALL FILES from both DVDs into that folder. Now, start the installation from that folder. It's much faster than installing for the DVDs anyway... ;)

Yeah I have plenty of hdd space, will this work? have you tried it yourself? Most games wont let you do that....though FS discs have always been open to copying to hdd's (you know missing fs9.gps export dll LOL)Thanks Bill, I'll try, hope it works, prolly wont know until after work tonight...sucks i bought this this morning at BB (6 other aviation geeks with me lol), and still dont have it installed :(Thanks for the tip though!EDIT: Here's something crazy, I was in the process of copying and WHAM, my entire PC just restarted itself!! WT poop! It also did that once while trying to install. Is it possible I got bad disked? Or would there be something hosed on my system? AFAIK it WAS entirely stable and everything was running great, AV software up to date, no spyware.....i have NO CLUE!! I might just have to wait a while till BB gets new copies in so i can exchange this one...I might bring it to a friends house so he can try it on his...maybe I'll just give it to him im pretty frustrated!!! :(

Hi RyanI had EXACTLY the same problem last week. Posted in this forum last Thursday (12/10/2006) topic #357349. Didn't get any advice and and I have returned my disks as faulty and am waiting for a result.Your post today has made me feel loads better as I am no longer alone with this particular problem:-roll

When the computer hangs on the 2nd disk the DVD says that a file has not been installed into the scenery folder. The fix is to remove the DVD and wipe off.Do NOT exit out of FSX but just put the DVD back into the DVD drive and FSX will continue. This is my 3rd post on this problem here but they get buried very quickly.I have reported this issue to MS because it appears it has to do with the way the package company placed the disk together without a partition between them for shipping.

Well I dont get the message "file hasn't been installed to the scenery folder," mine just sits there. I cannot take the disk out (disc 2) once I put it in there...IF I press the ok button after inserting disc 2 I CANNOT eject my disc lol.... I have to either a) cancel install or :( reboot/shutdown PC. I will test tomoorow at a friends house. I sure hope it is the disc and I can easily exchange it for another in a week or so when BB gets new copies in (hopefully)@Frank:Did you return to the store, or did you buy it online? Did you get a new copy or are they sold out at your store too? They are sold out at my store as well... :(

Hi RyanI bought online(UK) so I have returned the faulty set and I am waiting for the company to respond. Up to yesterday, they had not received the return. They say that they will only replace if they can confirm that the disks are faulty. I hope that the problem was not a speck of dirt whatever as suggested by the previos poster. I never even thought of 'cleaning' a brand new pristine disk:-hmmm

Later............just been emailed that replacement has been posted. Hope I have better luck than the first one!!!!!!

Ryan, I had EXACTLY the same problem, the InstallShield Wizard showing file "sceneryworldtexture040b2an0.agn" and after I inserted DVD 2 it spun up, pressed OK, but my dvd prompt disappeared and the hard drive flickered and that was all she wrote. Cancel didn't work, had to use TASK MANAGER and closed FSX Install. I couldn't do anything else on the system and noticed 2 copies of MSIEXEC.EXE running. Could not close them, but SHUTDOWN took about 2 minutes to do its thing.I tried my 2 DVD drives to install FSX, shut off all protection and even disconnected from the net. NO GO, same error. In desperation, I coaxed my wife into allowing an install on her new Core 2 Duo. Guess what, it installed, and like a rocket. It took my machine 5 minutes from the time I inserted the DVD 1 in and the time the actual install screen appeared. SOMETHING has to be wrong. My system is no slouch.DELL XPS Gen 53.6GHZ Pentium Hyperthreaded1 GB memory500 GB RAID 0 drive with scads of free spaceATI 256MB Radeon GT ProOK, I also looked all over the web and you are the only one that has the same problem as I *did* (enticement to have you read the whole message).I did speak to MS 2 times (got cut off both times, long wait, and in the short time I spoke to them all I was able to get was they only 'knew' of problems reading dvd 1, and Roxio was the culprit (and I've seen this on the web too). Supposedly UDF DVD's are the problem, which these are supposed to be I guess? Any way the test for that was to use Explorer and put both DVD's in. If you see FX DISK 2 as the label, then this isn't the problem, if you see UDF UNKNOWN, you have the problem, but I saw FX DISK 2.Since it worked on my wife's machine I got a hold of Dell to see if I has a misaglignment problem... and this was the ONLY DVD I've had a problem with.OK, so what did I do? Copied the DVD's to a TEMP directory and did DVD 1 first and replaced any dup files. Then started SETUP.EXE and it installed. Didn't get to the Install screen any faster, but the actual install was fast.I suspect some sort of problem with an underlying program. The suspect might be Nero 7 as that could be the only one that might 'muck' with the DVD devices OR the ADAPTEC ASPI drivers if in use. Maybe even MS Installer versions. One thing different between my wife's system and mine, I have XP Pro SP 2 and she had XP Media Center 2005 SP 2. Only oddity is that the InstallShield window DID NOT appear on her system. Odd... You'd think that both systems would be showing that (it was not a hidden window on her system that I could find either). So, I suspect the problem would be either Nero 7 or a slim posibility or MS Install. Since it did install from the hard disk, MS Install was used for that, so maybe it is either Nero or the Adaptec ASPI drivers?I have a NEC-3530 as my burner and that was a fairly popular model and I couldn't install with it, so I lean towards Nero or the ASPI drivers (if they are used at all).Try the hard disk install way, it worked for me.Irv

Hey I got it....oops thought I alreayd replioed guess not....I ended up closing out my Intervideo DVD manager thingy in the system tray and also copied from the discs to my HDD, then installed, worked prefectly.I think there was a conflict with the Intervideo software...I'm 90% sure....

For what it's worth, I had a similar hick-up during my install -- but the install still completed sucessfully!Twice during install my screen went blank momentarily, the monitor displayed the 'no data' indication that usually comes up when the computer itself is off.But here's the strange part! Of course I said to myself "Oh no!--" when this happened and was just about to reboot when my monitor came back on with the install screen intact and the progress bars proceeding as if nothing happened!I wiped my brow and crossed my fingers, and lo and behold, after a total of some 45 minutes, FSX was finally completely installed in my system and has since run fine with no rebooting or technical issues whatsoever. So if your screen goes blank, give it a few seconds, it may recover.
