April 28, 20206 yr Hello, I have been doing some digging in an cpu upgrade starting with no knowledge with today’s CPU’s however with a bit of research I’m slowly starting to understand a bit. Im on a tight budget so I’ve narrowed it down to I think 2 being the Ryzen 3600X or the I5 9600K.. there would be about 135$ Ish difference once I’m done...I’ll be using a nvidia GTX1060 6GB that’s in my current system (I7 7700 currently cpu) any opinions? thanks Intel I7 12700KF / 32 GB Ram-3600mhz / Windows 11 - 64 bit / NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060TI / 32" Acer Monitor, Honeycomb alpha/bravo, CH rudder pedals, Tobii 5, Buttkicker, Logitech radio panel.
April 29, 20206 yr Can you just overclock the 7700? Not much of an upgrade. I'd save for a new system overall. | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
April 29, 20206 yr The concensus amongst many techs is that AMD are currently in the lead and look to remain there for the forseeable future. I have always used AMD and not just because they are the cheaper option overall. I have never had any problems with my machines. The current Ryzen range are really gamechangers. I have the AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 4.2 and it performs beautifully. I believe the 7700 can’t be OC’d..only the 7700K...But I think you may be right, overall I’m thinking maybe it’s not much of an upgrade and could better save and spend that 450$ on an upgrade when I’ve managed to collect more funds. April 29, 20206 yr I agree, save the money and upgrade the CPU only when it's really worth it. With Vulkan, DX11/12 flight sims increasingly become GPU bound anyway so getting a new GPU might actually be the better deal for you. And remember to factor in potential costs for a new mainboard and maybe new ram when you switch CPUs.

I believe it can but it's just harder. Thanks for the comment..I figured with the new CPU I would for sure need a new board as mine doesn’t support many CPU’s ..without ram just the cpu and board I’d be looking at 500$ which I now feel could be put towards savings for a better upgrade in the future...I think I may have gotten overly excited about an upgrade in the initial thoughts. Thanks...I don’t know if my motherboard would allow it..and I think that’s above my computer knowledge to OC a cpu...I would probably imagine I would also need a cooling upgrade if I OC the cpu. April 29, 20206 yr Yeah you need better cooling for sure. Still I'd just stand by. There's new CPUs and GPUs coming out Q2-Q3 | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |

April 29, 20206 yr New CPUs are launching tomorrow: https://videocardz.com/newz/exclusive-intel-10th-gen-core-comet-lake-s-final-specs-and-pricing-leaked If you're on a budget, look for a cheap 1151 CPU. Otherwise, wait for the new LGA 1200 chips (Core 10 series).
