The BEST thing about FSX is....the missions!!!

Featured Replies

What I love most about FSX so far is the missions. They aren't "for kids", they aren't "stupid trade-offs" to attract average game players. They are very well designed aviation training scenarios, which can live up to real world pro. standards (given what the default planes are worth). You get to go through the same kinds of scenarios as those for real world training on simulators all the way up to levelD. I was very lucky to be instructed by Doug Stwart a couple of years back and we had a very challenging training session on his FAA approved simulator in IMC with partial panel and an engine failure at the last min. Tonight I just finished the "Yakutat Mail Run" mission in FSX and it was so similar I doubt Doug designed it. The FSX missions make FS meet real world flying on a whole new dimension. At the end of the mission I earned a "roasted turkey dinner" and I was proud of it. Give that mission a shot and you'll understand what I'm talking about. Then you may find yourself taking on other missions to see what it is like to fly with real life dynamics.Jason

I really like em too - that first glider one (Tutorial 7) was extremely cool I thought. The Area 51 "Janet" flight one had me cracking up the whole way too hehe.

I am enjoying them as well. Some are harder than I thought. I was surprised to see some actually relate to actual aviation techniques rather than just flying around from point a to point b.I was flying the flight to Interlocken in the cessna 172 one, was shocked to discover that this one is about how to handle engine failure and what to do when that happens at high altitudes. The persons voice added so much to it in making you feel like you were actually flying with someone. I was also pleased with the flight dynamics on "gliding" back to the airfield, it kept drifing and you could feel the wind beneath you, pretty cool!Regards, MichaelKDFW

Hi,I tried the NDB-A approach to Dutch Harbor (PADU) and it proved to be a real challenge!I had to struggle 2-3 times before I completed it. Especially the last part (circling approach in very bad weather is extremely challenging...I am lucky to own TrackIR).BTW, I am a rather experienced real world pilot and never expected this type of a "game" to be a test of pilotage skills...Well done MS!Spiros HazapisAthens, GreecePS/ off to try the approach to Changi now!

I had great fun with missions too, especially the gletscher mission LOL. And never before liked soaring so much. I reduced the sizes of the ground textures for performance, but still its a way better view outside than FS9. A small step for ACES, a big step for sim enthousiasts :)Regards, Gerrit

I agree with you all, the missions are great, one of the best parts of all the wonderful improvements in FS X.I would only urge you to take your time in the missions and not to rush through them or quit once you have accomplished the objective. There is a lot to see and do, and there are many hidden rewards. It is not for me to give anything away, but, I will say that I now love flying through barns.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/158929.jpgI never tried this in FS 9, because the Jenny was just not stable enough. But, the Cub is a dream to fly, love it!Best regards.Luis

I did the oil rig one with (with the Bell 206)- That was VERY challenging.Does anybody know if there are 'multiple' endings? For example, I got 2 out of 3- but is it actually possible to get all three? I don't know...I love the ultra-light one (in Africa)- really feels like Africa!

Many of our misions have multiple branches and different rewards you can earn for different outcomes (not all missions, but several). In the Oil Rig mission, there are about 5 distinctly different experiences or outcomes you could experience (some more rare than others).I think the best missions have great replayability and will be different everytime you fly them.I posted a teaser on my blog about the rewards and easter eggs. I'm very curious how long it will take for people to find all the stuff we put in.
