Problem on First Run

I'm done with it then.  Not sure why you haven't had this problem with other ORBX installations in v5.  Their software did all the installing, nothing manual.  Oh, well.  Good luck.

Then I don't understand why you had to "redo everything" . The ORBX "libraries" are discovery paths to P3D, which means, that when you start P3D, the sim will automatically find all ORBX products that have been installed in there. You shouldn't have to do anything at all.

Then WHY does it say there are missing add-on.xml files for the three Libraries?  I don't know why all my add-ons were no longer enabled, I haven't done anything to them since we started this thread. I have uninstalled the program.

P4AO only says that for Packages, not for Discovery Paths. The Orbx "libraries" are the latter, so that message didn't mean them. The only reason that makes any sense is that somehow there were both in the add-ons.cfg files - Packages and Discovery paths, pointing at the same locations. How they ended up being there, or why, is beyond me. I have never seen this before.

I ran a test late last night, installed a bit of ORBX into a vanilla P3D V5 on my devel system, using the ORBX library. I tried several combinations with P4AO, but I couldn't find anything weird or wrong. Nor did anyone run into this issue since ORBX started using their library system a couple of months ago. Or at least nobody told me about it. So I am at a complete loss as to what happened.

But you have me half convinced that it is probably better to discontinue that tool entirely.

Holy Cow, please don't discontinue P4AO!! Works great with Orbx stuff. I have some Orbx in a library, and some not in a library and I have no problem at all. One must be careful what you do with P4AO as you can introduce ordering issues, but that requires the user to do something wrong. In my experience P4AO doesn't change you addon configurations UNLESS you make a change then hit the "Save" button. P4AO is like a lot of tools...if you know what you're doing it's very useful, but if you don't know what you're doing you can make a mess.

Kind Regards,

Oliver,

I wholeheartedly support what Steven says above. I've gone through this thread again from the beginning and it is blindingly obvious that the problem is not with P4AO - as perfectly summarised by Steven:

I haven't been able to change anything with P4AO since it won't go beyond the error that I get, which the developer says I can't get.  I'm sure it's a wonderful program when it decides to work.  Maybe I'll try it again one of these days.

I probably didn't make this clear enough: Press "Ignore" on that warning message dialog, then, when P4AO loads, check that all your scenery is there. If it is, press "Save". If it isn't, just close the P4AO program and uninstall it.

Make sure to always use the latest version of P4AO.

Best regards

That is incorrect. The message is there and I told you why you are getting it.  Again: for whatever reason, you must have three Packages and three Discovery Paths pointing at the same three locations. Since there are no add-on.xmls there, the Package definitions are pointing nowhere, that is why you are getting the warning message. Eliminate the incorrect packages to solve the problem. P4AO does that automatically, when you press "Ignore".

Steven, Søren,

thank you, but I am just getting too many of these requests, via email too. It is next to impossible to diagnose problems in this area when you are not at the user's computer yourself. I find it increasingly hard to justify all this, it takes up too much time for a freeware project. I was somehow hoping that the tool would become irrelevant rather sooner than later. Technically, an app like this shouldn't even be necessary...

Best regards
