June 21, 20205 yr Moderator Happy Father's Day to you as well, Dave. Yes, I love watching drill teams. In fact I just finished watching Army, Marine, Air Force, Coast Guard and Navy drill teams this morning! Gosh how I miss military parades! When I lived in Harlingen, Texas I would attend nearly every MMI cadet parade. (Marine Military Institute). It was sad when KMI finally ended their 136 year history. Enrollment had dropped critically low, and they decided to open the school up to girls in order to make ends meet. Unfortunately that only staved off closure for three years before they ultimately had to shut down the school entirely. The Lyndon Kentucky campus is now a Christian Boarding School, and the Venice campus (shown above) became an enclosed boutique mall and museum. Oh how I miss being in my teens doing all that fun stuff! 😉 Fr. Bill AOPA Member: 07141481 AARP Member: 3209010556 Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator

Oh how I miss being in my teens doing all that fun stuff! 😉 My friend, my heart is right there with you, especially with the school closures. In a feeble attempt to read your mind... I will say that at least once a week I entertain the idea of secure funding and starting an alternative primary school that would teach the things which seem to be missing in abundance in today's educational climate. To bring things full circle, an annual music course would be mandatory for at least two years... I believe it's just as important as any other course. June 21, 20205 yr Moderator Well, one interesting side-effect of this morning's ruminations, is that I discovered a history of KMI written by a former cadet titled. "Character Makes the Man*." I found it is available at Amazon so I bought the paperback version. Sadly the movie made from that book is no longer available. I would have enjoyed watching the Sunday full-dress parades and the Drill Team performance. Both music education and comprehensive civics courses are sadly missing from today's public school curriculum. *Nota bene: KMI's official motto, and in fact appeared on enameled medallions on the cadet's shoulder tabs.
