One of my oldest son's fondest sayings is "I don't have to know how to read music because I'm the bass player". He plays a couple of nights a weeks with a blues/western band in Knoxville, TN. His younger brother also plays bass (standup mostly) around the jazz scene in Dallas, TX. Neither have ever done it for money. They just do it because they love it. The really neat thing about Hauptwerk is that there are hundred's of "SoundFonts" available for free, as well as many that aren't so free (several thousands of dollars actually) available to install. "Just a closer walk.." was using a Hammond B3 SF. I've always had an affinity for Dixieland Jazz and just wanted to do something different for a change just so my audience wouldn't get the impression that I was just a high brow musician and actually have a sense of humor. I absolutely love the "trumpet en chamade" so of course picked a Trumpet Fanfare (J. June 19, 20205 yr This thread put a slight delay on my latest Chock's Hangar video covering the new Aeroplane Heaven Control-Ezy Pucara. 🤣 As some of you know, I often put a song at the start of those videos related to the thing I'm covering, and I was all set with doing a fairly simple acoustic cover of something, but then I found out that we're all a bunch of musos, so I figured I'd better step it up a bit with the music, thus if you check out my new CH vid (which will be up in a few hours), it's actually got some drumming on it and a bit of overdubbed vocals. I was going to put some keyboards on it too, but I decided it sounded alright without them and would probably have been a bit too busy with more tracks added to it. I actually did three different songs before deciding on the right one for the vid, which meant I had to learn how to play three tunes which I didn't really know very well, so in the end I decided to rock up an ambient/trance track and give it a bit of an indie vibe into the bargain. June 19, 20205 yr Author What is the difference between a savings bond and a musician? The savings bond matures and usually earns money. How do you get the bass player in the band to stop playing? You put sheet music in front of him. What do call a successful musician? A guy with a wife or girlfriend and only two other jobs. When I grow up, I want to be a musician. Now, honey, you can't do both. What do you say to a musician in a three-piece suit? "Will the defendant please rise..." What do you call a musician without a girlfriend? Homeless. Three departed souls appeared before St. Peter at the pearly gates. St. Peter asked the first one, "What was your last job and annual salary?" The first soul replied, "$200,000; I was a trial lawyer." St. Peter asked the second one the same question. The soul answered, "$95,000; I was a realtor." St. Peter then asked the third soul the same question. The answer was "$5,000." Before he could go on, St. Peter immediately said "Cool! What instrument did you play?" As a musician (bagpipes), I've played many gigs. Recently I was asked by a funeral director to play at a graveside service for a homeless man. He had no family or friends, so the service was to be at a pauper's cemetery in the Kentucky back-country .As I was not familiar with the backwoods, I got lost; and being a typical man I didn't stop for directions. I finally arrived an hour late and saw the funeral guy had evidently gone and the hearse was nowhere in sight. There were only the diggers and crew left and they were eating lunch. I felt badly and apologized to the men for being late. I went to the side of the grave and looked down and the vault lid was already in place. I didn't know what else to do, so I started to play. The workers put down their lunches and began to gather around. I played out my heart and soul for this man with no family and friends; I played like I've never played before for this homeless man. And as I played 'Amazing Grace,' the workers began to weep. They wept, I wept, we all wept together. When I finished I packed up my bagpipes and started for my car. Though my head hung low my heart was full. As I was opening the door to my car, I heard one of the workers say, "I never seen nothin' like that before and I've been putting in septic tanks for over twenty years." June 19, 20205 yr C, E flat and G walk into a bar and the bartender says: “Sorry we don’t serve minors”, so E flat leaves, C and G have four drinks each and then an open fifth between them. After a few drinks, the fifth is diminished and G is out flat. F comes in and tries to augment the situation, but is not sharp enough. The bartender serves D a couple of drinks, D wants a third but the bartender holds off on giving it to him, so he is suspended. Alan Bradbury Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here
June 19, 20205 yr Author A guy walks into the doctor's office and says, "Doc, I haven't had a bowel movement in a week!" The doctor gives him a prescription for a mild laxative and tells him, "If it doesn't work, let me know." A week later the guy is back: "Doc, still no movement!" The doctor says, "Hmm, guess you need something stronger," and prescribes a powerful laxative. Still another week later the poor guy is back: "Doc, STILL nothing!" The doctor, worried, says, "We'd better get some more information about you to try to figure out what's going on. What do you do for a living?" "I'm a musician." The doctor looks up and says, "Well, so that's it! Here's $10.00. Go get something to eat!"
