Recommend going in "shoulder" season. IE after school gets in.  And mid-week.

The place is so close to 5 million people, and everybody seems to have money to travel, and there are those blasted bus tours which flood the park with large numbers of folks all at once. Unfortunately compared to the 1960s and 1970s, the place can be a zoo.

Check your weather, get a good day or more, mid-Sept, mid week...you will have the best experience.
